Sterling Silver Open Face. Pair Cased Verge Fusee c. Here for your consideration we have a Verge escapement pair cased fusee pocket watch c. 1788 by J Richards of London, A very fine early example and a true piece of history, The original dial with fine black numerals, there are few very fine hairlines and a small chip as shown a reflection of the watches age, cased in big oversize fully hallmarked case with it’s original sterling silver outer shell, The pocket watch even has it’s original bulls eye glass and contain a superb fusee movement that looks as though it has been well looked after with no signs of tinkering, Movement is very clean and keeps a good beat. Untested for timekeeping due to age. Outer Case Width: 53mm. All watches look better to the natural eye than in photo’s and blemishes are not apparent in there natural view. Have you taken time to read the full description. Looked at all photo’s showing clear condition of the watch. Checked the movement is what you require ie, quartz, Manual winding or Automatic. Checked the size of the wrist watch and it’s Gender. Notice pre 1960s watch tend to be smaller in some cases. Have you watched the video of the watch. The watch will under go a strict inspection of it visual and mechanical condition. The watch will be wound to full power and tested for performance over a 24 hour period by our professional horologist. Watches after our final checks are wrapped to the highest le vel to prevent damage in transport only then are they despatched. How do we protect our self against mischievous and fraudulent behaviour. For our protection due to bad experiences with mischievous people who open the case backs of our watches and cause internal damage or remove parts, remember horology is a specialist subject and many years of experience in this field needed so do not attempt to remove or tamper with any watches and then return to us. The person named above was has clearly broken the law committing fraud and deception he is awaiting trial, internet fraud is a very serious offence and when found guilty can be up to a 10 year prison sentence. All our items are security marked and serial numbers logged watches are clearly seen in video’s working unless stated in our add so any parts removed or damaged will be classed as criminal damage or theft and we will 100% prosecute. Again sorry to all the genuine people in the world, but if you are that person who is thinking purchasing from us with a criminal intent think again. Note you will need to care for the watch to the highest level and it will require service at some point in time. What to expect & recomendations for the owner of antiquarian watches. All Antique watches are mechanical. Many repairs will not be cheap, as most likely they will require replacement of non-standard parts (unlike most late model watches). Antique watches should not be beaten or dropped – because repairs may be expensive. Antique watches are generally NOT waterproof. This is because waterproofing was not in general production until the middle of the 20th century for most watches. Therefore you should protect your antique watch from exposure to moisture. If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust. If your watch becomes wet with any kind of salt water you should immediately immerse or spray your watch with fresh (no-salt) water to remove all the salt from the works before drying the watch completely. Any salt left in the watch will combine with moisture in the air to rust metal components of the movement, case etc. Winding any mechanical watch tight may break the mainspring. If you can avoid it do not wind the watch hard. When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only. Counter-clockwise adjustments may damage the movement. If you must adjust counter-clockwise make it for small adjustments only i. For minutes, NOT hours. Be careful and gentle when adjusting the movement speed (faster or slower). Don’t make sharp movements, and don’t touch other components in the movement especially the pendulum mechanism. Every 2-3 years it is necessary to service and oil vintage watches. IF the watch is dirty – allow the watch to run down, don’t wind it again until you have it serviced by a qualified watch repair expert. Dust will absorb and remove important lubricants and cause the movement pieces to wear down. To clean the case, dial and crystal you should use a cloth that does NOT leave fibers as these may get caught up in the movement. Check with your Watch repair expert to get an appropriate cloth. Keep your antiques watch away from magnets. Strong magnetic fields may affect the accuracy of your watch since some vintage watches were made with iron based components in the movement. Most Cases and Covers are fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed. Antique watches generally experience an error of up to 5-7 minutes a day. Any accuracy of +- 5 minutes is very good. Vintage & collectors watches are very delicate and I package to the highest degree to prevent damage. High altitude flights can be hard on watches due to extreme temperature changes. This can cause the oil viscosity to decrease (gum up) and prevent a watch from ticking the balance moving freely etc. It may need to be oiled when it arrives regardless of its recent servicing (if applicable). Although this is only a very slight possibility it can occasionally happen. Check out my other items. Engraved On The Movement G C T. With hack function working! Included is the Rare Wood Navy Aircraft watch case with glass intact as pictured!!!! WWII 4992B Pocket Watch History. During World War II, Hamilton produced a variety of time pieces to support the war effort. In fact, all of Hamilton’s production was dedicated to defense purposes. However, they did still produce some wrist watches using excess movements produced in the 1920′s. One of the war-related watches was a pocket watch with a central sweep second hand. The movement was based on the 21 jewel, 16 size 992B movement. However, an extra jewel was added to support the second hand pinion, so the movement got 22 jewels and was called the 4992B. The 4992B is known as a “Navigator’s Watch” as it was used by aviators to aid in navigation by the US Navy during the war. Here’s a couple of advertisements from WWII-era Life Magazines that featured the 4992B. You’ll often see 4992B’s in a case or a box that was intended to isolate it and protect it from shocks or accidental damage. If you look closely at the dial, you’ll see that it’s a 24 hour dial so it takes a full day for the hour hand to make a full rotation. 12:00 noon on a 24 hour dial looks like 6:00 on a 12-hour dial. The minute hand still makes it around the dial in one hour, so the ratio of the minute hand to the hour hand is modified using a different minute wheel and hour wheel ratio. Another interesting aspect to the 4992B is it “hacks” or stops when you pull out the crown to set the time. This allows you to set a very precise time… The old, “synchronize your watches” phrase comes to mind.
