The product is a vintage Elgin BW Raymond pocket watch from 1897, featuring an open face display back with screw-on bezels. It has 17 ruby jewels, a lever escapement, and Arabic numeral indices. The case is made of nickel alloy with a polished silver finish, and the movement is a mechanical manual 18-size precision watch. This piece represents the later era of Elgin’s history, combining the iconic American brand name with precise Swiss engineering. Details & Condition:? Movement: Marked “Elgin 976″ and 17 Jewels Seventeen. It is unadjusted and Swiss-made. The movement appears clean, though service history is unknown. Dial: High-visibility white dial with bold black numerals and a sub-seconds track at the 6 o’clock position. Marked “SWISS” at the very bottom. This is an interesting piece-a late-era Elgin pocket watch. What makes this one stand out is that while Elgin was historically a giant of American manufacturing, this specific model features a Swiss-made movement, indicating it was likely produced after the original Illinois factory closed Case: Housed in a 10K Rolled Gold Plate (RGP) case manufactured by the Star Watch Case Company. The case shows minor surface wear and “pocket/desk” scuffs consistent with age, but no major brassing or dents. Crystal: Clear with minimal scratches; provides a great view of the crisp dial. Note: As with all vintage mechanical timepieces, professional servicing is recommended for daily use and timekeeping accuracy. It is very reliable and clean. The Swiss 17-jewel movement is known for being a robust, reliable timekeeper compared to 100-year-old American movements that may have worn-out pivots. The Military/Bold Aesthetic: The “Bold Arabic” military style, numeral dial is very popular right now. This piece has Excellent case integrity, no brassing on high-wear areas. This is a circa 1928 Longines Pocket Watch which belonged to a man named Robert Blatz. The watch is partially running (see video of ticking and seconds hand moving), however it does not stay running for long. It likely needs a service, but all parts appear to be present. Robert’s initials are engraved on the back of the watch case. The case was manufactured by the Illinois Watch Case Co. The case has the serial 4423567 and the watch movement has the serial 2507318. It’s a seventeen jewel movement made by Longines Watch Co in Switzerland. The case back does have several watchmakers marks on it indicating service throughout the years. To the best I can tell, the last service was either in the late 1990s or early 2000s. It’s clearly been well taken care of over the years.
