Weight: 92.2g (tw). Condition: Some visible cosmetic damage to the case metal. Case back closes but pushes a bit. Movement is in working condition, and keeps time, but loses about an hour per day. It runs longer than a day fully wound. Some cracking in dial, no crystal, please see images.

# Antique American Waltham “Sidewinder” Pocket Watch – Model 1883. Up for sale is an antique American Waltham Watch Co. Pocket watch from late 1899. This unique piece features a hunting-movement configuration housed in an open-face case, placing the winding stem at the 3 o’clock position (familiarly known to collectors as a “Sidewinder”). Movement Serial Number: 9318529. Estimated Production Date: 1899 (September – October Run). Size: 18s (Large pocket watch size). Jewel Count: 15 Jewels. Movement Finish: Nickel (Damaskeened). Setting Type: Stem Wind, Stem Set. ### Case & Dial Styling. Case Type: Open face, screw-back configuration. Crown Position: 3 O’clock position (“Sidewinder” layout). Case Material: Silverode (Durable nickel-alloy base metal). Case Details: Features a clean coin-edge bezel and an elegant steam engine locomotive engraving on the back cover. Dial: Original porcelain dial with classic Roman numeral hour markers and a sunken sub-seconds register. Hands: Original blued steel hands. ### Condition Report & Mechanical Notes (Read Carefully). Cosmetics: The movement damaskeening looks brilliant. The silverode case shows normal light wear consistent with its age of 125+ years. Dial Condition: The porcelain dial features two faint, hairline cracks located between the 7 and 8 o’clock positions. Mechanical Function: The watch is currently wound tight and is not running. The balance wheel is wobbly when coaxed, which strongly indicates a broken balance staff pivot axle rather than a loose balance cock bridge. This is a perfect project watch for a hobbyist or watchmaker looking to install a new balance staff or transplant a donor balance assembly. This Waltham is set in a C. Co Gold Filled case. The chain is labeled 12k Gold Filled. It appears to have been produce between 1897 and 1899. The movement works when wound. A few seconds winding and it’s been running for several days now, but I haven’t gauged how closely it actually keeps the time. The case features beautiful floral designs around the edge as well as surrounding a small box in the center on both the back and front. The central square on the front has the initials “CS” engraved in flowing script. The central square on the back features a scene that appears to show a house among trees with a lake and distant trees in the background. The details are sharp and there is very little wear on the outside for the age. Case Serial Number: 664558. Movement Serial Number: 7394119. Below is the data provided by the Pocket Watch Database. May 1897 – July 1899. Condition Notes: Works, but not tested for how well it keeps time. There is a name Carry Shafer? Engraved under the first layer of the back cover. There are initials engraved on the front cover/lid. There are minor scuffs. There is a small dent on the back near the hinge and a little scratch near the central square on the back. The movement, face, and glass look really clean.

Waltham Antimagnetic Pocket Watch Montgomery Dial Swiss Movt. Watch runs freely as can be seen in video. Does not always run down to the end of its power reserve and can stop at times. Watch has been left for long periods of time running and is capable of keeping time. Anyone purchasing this watch should know that based on these observations the watch would need to be serviced to run as it did when new. Imperfections exist on the watch and have been photographed.
