Up for sale is a rare, complete, and fully functional collector’s set featuring a c. 1919 South Bend 12-Size Open-Face Pocket Watch (Grade 429, 19 Jewels). This piece comes directly with its original South Bend leatherette velvet-lined display box and the elusive factory “Purple Ribbon” tag-an iconic piece of early 20th-century horological marketing history! Finding a high-grade 19-jewel South Bend dress watch in working order and accompanied by both its original box and intact factory ribbon tag is exceptionally difficult for collectors today. Movement Grade: 429 (High-grade 12-Size) Movement Serial Number:? 936857? Dates production to c. Includes: Original South Bend velvet-lined presentation box and original silk “Purple Ribbon” factory tag. Condition & Operational Status Working Status: Runs and keeps time! The movement winds smoothly by crown and sets properly. The balance wheel swings freely and strongly. Movement: Clean, intact damaskeened nickel movement with crisp, bright stampings and no rust or pitting. Case: Excellent vintage condition. The 20-year gold-fill layer remains strong with no visible brassing through the metal. Light, age-appropriate surface micro-scratches on the exterior back cover. Dial & Crystal: Dial shows a minor, natural patina consistent with age. Crystal is clear with minimal wear. Box & Ribbon: Presentation box is structurally sound with minor age wear to outer seams and soft velvet lining.
