Looks nice and runs very well. It does have a couple very lite hairline cracks on the dial. The back of the movement is just over 1 3/8 across for the size. Illinois 18S, 17J, Two Tone RR Grade Hunting Case Pocket Watch. This antique Illinois pocket watch is 18 size (case diameter 55 mm). The case is Keystone gold filled with some wear to the engraving but no brass except on the coin edge, and only one tiny little bruise. The case opens correctly although the lift spring doesn’t open the cover quite all the way. The original double sunk dial is excellent! No hairlines or chips, and note the matching hands. The lever set movement is two tone, 17 jewels, and marked adjusted. This movement was railroad grade when made in 1896. Movement is excellent although the gilt is somewhat faint, but not as faint as the image would suggest. This watch runs and keeps reasonable time, but I do not know the history of this watch, so it may need to be serviced. Sorry, this is NOT a “Make Offer” listing. This is an extremely nice old Civil War Era Wm. Ellery 18 size 4 hinged coin silver hunting case. The gilt movement is marked Wm. Ellery Boston, Mass with serial number 212831 ca. The case is marked Warranted Coin Silver with fancy tooling inside the front cover. The case has gold hinges and shows only minimal wear while the engraving is still very crisp. The movement shows normal patina with no signs of abuse. I don’t know how many jewels, but there are 4 large “window pane” jewels visible on the top plate. The watch is running and setting fine but I don’t know when it was last serviced, so no guarantee to accuracy or extended run time. The balance has a great motion with a slight “wiggle”, but the pivots are fine. I would recommend a good cleaning and truing the balance, if you want better accuracy.
