This listing is for. WALTHAM Wm Ellery 18s 11j Mod 1879 Pocket Watch in EZRA E. Very rare case with what appears to be the original movement too! This was possibly the first “dustproof case design” patented by Waltham president Ezra E. The case was professionally cleaned and polished to reveal and amazing silver case with excellent luster! The crown does NOT screw down any longer, but this is an awesome piece of history! Some typical scratches and small-med dents in body as is typical of a silver case. But it has a brand new-old-stock extra-thick original-type beveled-edge glass crystal! Movement is an 18-size Waltham Wm Ellery, Model 1879, 11-Jewel, s/n 2063168. While it is not running, it is complete with good balance, just needs to be serviced. The case is marked: PAT’D APR 22 1879 (Ezra Fitch Patent #214642, screw-down crown, explorer case). Swing-Out design works as it should, very good hinges, case screws, etc. Condition: Good+ Physical Condition – See Pictures! Not running, but complete, so just needs to be serviced. Crown will need to be machined in order to screw-down like it did 125 years ago. Please see all pictures for full review and inspection. Antique Waltham 7J 8s Grade Wm. Ellery Pocket Watch 9k Solid Gold – DAMAGED CASE. Diameter 41.46 mm. Waltham 7 Jewel Grade Wm. Ellery Model 1873 Movement. 9k Solid gold Hunter face case with misleading 18 stamp. This one has been tested as 9k. Single Sunk White Enamel Dial with Roman Numerals. Key Wind / Key Set (Includes Key). Total gross weight of the watch is 59.85 grams. When fully wound and placed on a timegrapher in the dial up position for 1 minute it shows the watch gaining approximately +15 seconds per day. Regulator is almost in slowest position. I would recommend having it serviced to improve its accuracy. DIAL: Hairline and edge chip at 5. Small chip in center of seconds register. Some small surface scratches. CASE: Rear cover with crack near hinge. Rear cover does not stay closed. Several small dings to front and rear covers. Fine scratches to exterior. Cuvette with scratches and marring from case knife openings. CRYSTAL: Good glass crystal. HANDS: Some oxide at tip of minute hand. September 1882 – December 1882. 1888 Waltham “Wm Ellery” Model 1873 11 jewel movement in solid 18K gold Hunting case. Starting with the case, beautiful engraving on the front and back. No dents or dings. The hallmark is stamped on the inside on the back of the case (see pictures above). All hinges and clasp work as they should. The watch is a stem wind and lever set. The lever will swing out to adjust the time. The single sunk enamel dial is near mint condition with no hairlines or chips, perfect glass crystal. Beautiful single-sunk dial is in very nice condition with no visible hairlines or chips (see Photos). Crystal has no scratches or chips. The heavy Coin Silver. Case is in very good condition considering the age with a light design on one side. All three hinges seem solid & open to the 90 degree mark. There are a few slight dents probably due to its age & normal wear. Watch is very clean and seems to run well. This pocket watch is being offered as is. This watch is currently not running, it has a broken balance and it is in need of service. It dates to about 1881 and it is an 11 Jewel and it is an 18s, Grade WM. The case is a nice Engraved Sterling Silver case, it will have small wear, scratches, and dings as it was worn. The rear case is unattached and needs to be repaired by a jeweler who can weld.
