This vintage Waltham pocket watch from 1863 is a true piece of history. With a 7-jewel mechanical movement, it features a white enameled dial with Roman numerals and a 12-hour dial, as well as a spring cover and a seconds hand. The polished coin silver hunter case is adorned with a pre-Civil War seated liberty dollar fob and comes with a chain. The watch is key wind and key set, and the escapement type is undoubtedly key to its precise timekeeping. This pocket watch is not just a timepiece, but a symbol of a bygone era. With no water resistance, it is best kept safe from any exposure to moisture. The vintage styling and unique features, such as the double hunter closure and the use of a coin in its design, make this an exquisite piece for any collector.

Waltham Civil War era. 18 size 15 jewel keywind and keyset Appleton Tracy & Co. Movement is a Model 1857 and is of Civil War era vintage, being from a run listed in Waltham factory records as having been made between September of 1864 and February of 1865. This watch is highlighted by its unusual and very impressive A. W. Co. Hunting case which is silver (though unmarked) and appears to be the original to the watch and features a ten-sided band, pumpkin style crown, and an engraved hunting scene to its front with a dog chasing a fox. Dial is sunk-seconds enamel and signed American Watch Co. Movement serial number is 132897. Running though balance motion is somewhat sluggish and watch gained about 5 minutes over 24 hours and I think likely hasn’t seen any type of servicing in years. Movement plates have a somewhat yellowed tone and scattered surface spots. Case screw is a replacement with smaller sized head than the original. Dial has some hairlines within its seconds-register, a hairline at the 5 O’clock area, and some tiny edge nicks outside the minute chapter marking. Minute hand is somewhat short and has a bend. Case is very attractive with a darkened patina, typical scattered fine scratches, excellent engraving detail, and case front and rear open a bit short of 90 degrees to approximately 80 degrees each.
