The watch is in running condition and as of right now is accurate and running strong. The scalloped case has a few scratches from normal use, and the covers open to 90 degrees, the hinges are rust free and clean. The dial has a hair line crack that runs from the center pinion up between the 11 and 12 o’clock position, otherwise it is in great shape and bright in color. The hands are rust free, and winds and sets with no friction or dragging. The nickel movement is clean with no rust or dirt that I can see, and with a push of the crown, the front cover pops open. The back cover has what I would call a church scene inscribed, and the front cover has no monogram on the shield. The bow is tight, and the crown is in great shape with no wear. Up for sale is a Mega Rare Beautiful Antique Railroad Elgin Father Time Pocket Watch in Beautiful, Heavy and Large Salesman. The Rare, Unique Movement has a serial number 10813749 which dates it to be manufactured in 1904. The Case is in Excellent Mint condition, the Dial , Hands and Glass Crystals are in immaculate mint condition please see the pictures. In fact, Elgin produced approximately one-half of the total number of better-quality pocket watches manufactured in the United States. Total production over their 100 years of operation reached nearly 60 million watches, which is nearly 50% of ALL the jeweled watches produced by American watch companies! This makes Elgin one of the most commonly collected vintage watches since there are still so many examples available at reasonable prices. The clock tower at the Elgin National. The Elgin Watch Company’s success was not built on its production of the highest-grade watches, though some of their higher grades were top-quality, exquisitely made timepieces. Elgin watches remain extremely popular with collectors today because they are plentiful, can be obtained at reasonable prices, and can be relatively easily repaired due to the large number of watches and parts available. Throughout their history, the Elgin National Watch Company was known for horological innovations. In 1958, they introduced the “DuraBalance, ” an ingenious design for a free-sprung balance (no regulator pins) which used spiral balance arms and small weights to govern the moment of inertia of the balance. They also produced the only American-made automatic wristwatch movements: grades 607, 618, 760, and 761. These movements featured bi-directional, full-rotor winding, and had two automatic winding gear ratios, which were automatically engaged as the mainspring tension increased. The contributions of the Elgin National Watch Company to American Horological industry cannot be overstated. Many Elgin watches that were made over 100 years ago are still providing reliable and accurate daily service to their proud owners. During the last few years that Elgin was in business (late 50′s through mid-60′s), they began to reduce their US production and began importing Swiss watch movements which were finished and labeled as Elgin watches. Like many of this era, it states that it has won awards in 1905 and 1906. There is a serial number on the case is 113525. This is a full hunter’s case comprised of filled gold. Overall, the case is in nice condition though there is some minor pitting on the exterior sides. The manual wind mechanism functions flawlessly as does the Quarter Hour repeater. It keeps accurate time. The repeater chimes in a single tone, once for each hour. It chimes in two tones for each quarter hour, so at 6:31, it will chime six times, and then issue a two tone chime twice, once for each of the past two quarter hours. Case size is 46mm and weight is 75 grams. It’s a solid watch and perfect for any function. The face is likely enamel. There is no chain included. It will be insured for the sale price.
