18 size Ferguson pocket watch dial. A rare original double-recessed enamel Ferguson dial in the typical Swiss made style with series of 1908 and 1909 international patent dates to its rear. Dial feet positions are for a hunting case Model 1883 movement. Beautiful dial with bold vibrant black and red color, dial is very close to perfect having only a few very slight contact marks, the most notable of these is a tiny fine scratch and minuscule pinpoint nick to the 15 minute numeral which are pretty much negligible to the overall in hand look. For sale is an American Watch Co (Waltham) PS Bartlett grade, model 1857, 18 size pocket watch in 14k gold Ladd case. I’ll get to the case details at the end. A spectacular watch in spectacular condition. The watch is in good working order and keeping good time. The serial number dates it to 1872. It is keywind and comes with a key. The dial does not have any cracks, chips, or hairlines and is marked AMERICAN WATCH CO. The case diameter is approx. It comes with nice, heavy, gold filled chain, and a correct, antique, key. The key is marked N. On one side and Watch Maker & Jeweler on the reverse side. Crystal is a very old class crystal, perhaps original. Now onto the case, which I believe it mostly 14k gold. But please read and do your own research. The case is only marked G. Based on some research I did, these high grade Ladd cases are supposedly made with at least 50% gold. They were actually considered superior to most solid gold case. Ladd designs were intended to be of better appearance and strength than 100% gold. With this in mind, I can tell you what I found, and what I believe. I tested various pieces of the case. On the bezel, outer back cover, and cuvette (inner dust cover) I have moderately filed down the underside of the lip where you would insert a blade to pop it open. This was done in such a way that you would not notice it unless you popped open the covers or bezel and really examined it. I tested both electronically and touchstone acid test. Here is what I found. Outer back cover, tests as 14k gold both with electronic and touchstone acid testing, both done at the back of lip that was filed down. Cuvette (inner back cover), FAILS with electronic and touchstone acid testing, both done at the back of lip that was filed down. I believe it’s gold filled. Bezel, tests as 14k gold both with electronic and touchstone acid testing, both done at the back of lip that was filed down. Inner case (main ring shaped part of the case). And pendant area tests as 14k gold both with electronic and touchstone acid testing. However, all testing was down without heavy filing. I was not really able to test this with heavy filing without doing damage to the case. The case is absoutely BEAUTIFUL. I removed the movement and chain and weighed the case itself with crystal and it was approx. 70 grams with the crystal. Without the crystal it’s probably 65 grams. Early Trenton 18 Size Antique Hunting Case Watch. This antique Trenton pocket watch is 18 size (case diameter 53 mm). This is a Model 2 made about 1890. The movement is 7 jewels and lever set. The dial is original and has several faint hairlines. The case is thin gold plate in pretty good shape outside as shown with a little brass showing but very little wear. The case lift spring does not work, so you have to open the front cover. This is an interesting and fairly scarce early American pocket watch. Vintage Unusual ILLINOIS 23J 12S 410 Model 5 with 14k White GF Hex case rare. Gold hands and numbers. Two tiny pits on back, like a grain of salt or smaller. In picture 3 you can see one around the 2-3 position and an even smaller one around the 11 position. The thing in the 8 position is a reflection of my smoke detector. Picture 4 has a close up. One thing i noticed when winding the watch is that the crown comes out to the setting time position unusually easy. Everything works but there seems to be a weak retainer. Here is a very clean solid 14k gold 12 Size American Waltham Hunter’s Case pocket watch that is 103 years old and is running. This watch has a very ornate crisp case that measures 45.1 mm wide not including the bow and crown. It weighs 61.6 grams or 39.6 pennyweight. Too nice to scrap and has ornate front and back covers. Good tight front, back, and dust cover hinges. The SIGNED dial is super clean and has black Arabic block hour markers and matching blued hands. Sunken seconds register with a perfect sized blue hand. Appears to be all original. The SIGNED movement is a 17 jewel stem wound and stem set USA made movement and is running. The movement’s serial # 21,102,924 dates this watch to 1917. This is a Model 1894 Grade 225. I have no service records for this 103 year old Waltham pocket watch. It is s old as you see it pictured here. I sell all my watches as-is and as found.
