I got this from my grandfather’s estate 45 years ago, and it has sat in a drawer ever since. The movement is from the Elgin National Watch Co. And the case is from Fahys, marked Fahys Monarch No. 1, Pat April 22, 1879. The movement serial number dates the watch to around 1892 (4,683,288). The watch does not work, but the stem does move the watch hands.
Here is a freshly serviced 1906 Elgin 18S gilt stem set and wind movement. It’s been keeping within a minute or so for the last 3 weeks. The white dial has a mark around the 3-4. Hands are straight and nicely blued still. The bow stands up firm. The crown appears to be new old stock. There is a new old stock mineral glass crystal installed.
