Beautiful Art Deco 1921 Illinois Size 12s “Stewart Special” 17 Jewel Pocket Watch in Hinged Back 14K White Gold Filled Case – Runs Great. I wound and ran this watch for about 24 hours and it started up on it’s own when wound and kept pretty accurate time within a minute or two, but I can not ensure it’s accuracy to keep exact time and due to it’s age it may require a good cleaning or service. Case Measurement (not including Crown): 44.60mm. Case Measurement (including Crown): 51.40mm. Case Thickness: 12.65mm. Production year of the movement within +/- 3 years>. Hunting: The stem is at the 3:00 position, and the movement is meant to be mounted in a case that has a covering over the face. “Sidewinders” are hunting movements in openface cases. 20.5, 39.0, 55.0. 2.5, 35.5. This Antique Pocket Watch was made by Illinois Watch Company. It Runs and Keeps Time and does start up on it’s own when wound. It Ticks Strong With Great Swing on the Balance (I can not guarantee it’s accuracy and it may need cleaned or serviced). The movement is Stamped ” Illinois Stewart Special – 17 Jewels – Adjusted – Double Roller” and it’s serial numbered #3843012. This Pocket Watch is a Stem Set and Stem Wind Movement , it winds up smooth and easy and the hands move smoothly when the stem is pulled to set the time. The Watch Features a Super Clean Metal Dial and is in Great Condition with just a few surface scratches. It has Blue Steel Moon Style Hour and Minute hand which are in great condition. The Crystal is clear with just a few light surface scratches from normal wear. It has Black Hour Markers and a Very Nice Silver Sub-Seconds dial at the 6 o’clock postion. The Stem, Crown, & Bow are all in Great Condition. This Pocket Watch Case is a Beautiful White Gold 14K Gold Filled Case made by Illinois Watch Case Co. This Case is s tamped inside “14K Gold Filled Guaranteed – Elgin – Trivoli – Illinois Watch Case Company” and it serial numbered #3751167. This Case has a very ornate art deco design and is great condition. It has a hinged back case lid which opens and snaps shut as it should. The front bezel is a snap on bezel and is in excellent condition. The rear case lid has “Dad” engraved on the back which would make a great gift. This Case has no dings or dents visible just a few light surface scratches (Please see all pics for condition). WWII 4992B Pocket Watch History. During World War II, Hamilton produced a variety of time pieces to support the war effort. In fact, all of Hamilton’s production was dedicated to defense purposes. However, they did still produce some wrist watches using excess movements produced in the 1920′s. One of the war-related watches was a pocket watch with a central sweep second hand. The movement was based on the 21 jewel, 16 size 992B movement. However, an extra jewel was added to support the second hand pinion, so the movement got 22 jewels and was called the 4992B. The 4992B is known as a “Navigator’s Watch” as it was used by aviators to aid in navigation by the US Navy during the war. You’ll often see 4992B’s in a case or a box that was intended to isolate it and protect it from shocks or accidental damage. If you look closely at the dial, you’ll see that it’s a 24 hour dial so it takes a full day for the hour hand to make a full rotation. 12:00 noon on a 24 hour dial looks like 6:00 on a 12-hour dial. The minute hand still makes it around the dial in one hour, so the ratio of the minute hand to the hour hand is modified using a different minute wheel and hour wheel ratio. For your consideration is an 8S, 7J William Ellery, Model 1873 Waltham Pocket Watch. Estimated production year is March, 1877. Watch is key set and key wind. Watch is in working condition. The Glass Crystal is in Excellent Condtion and is very clear. It has black hour markers and a nice seconds dial at the 6 o’clock postion. This case is a Nice Swing-Out Case with a Screw On Bezel. In Great condition – please see pictures. The movement has a serial number 1583550 which dates it to be manufactured in 1885. The Enamel Dial, Hands and Acrylic Crystal are in immaculate mint condition please see the pictures. The case is in Excellent Condition. The Watch size is 51MM WITH CROWN. The watch was recently serviced, running STRONG and keeping excellent time. Brief History: American Waltham Watch Company. The American Waltham watch factory on the banks of the Charles River. The American Waltham Watch Company had its beginnings in 1850 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. The company was founded by David Davis, Aaron Dennison, and Edward Howard. Their vision was to form a watch company that could produce high-quality watches at a lower cost using interchangeable parts. With financial backing from Samuel Curtis, of small-arms manufacturing fame, the watch production began in 1851, and the first small group of watches were finished in late 1852. The first watches produced went to officials of the company, and it was not until 1853 that the first watches were offered for sale to the public. Problems were encountered with the new production methods. The company was exploring innovative new ideas in watch manufacturing, such as using jewels, making enamel dials, and producing plates with a high-level of finish which required extensive tooling and resulted in a great financial burden. They also found that even though they were using interchangeable parts, each watch was still unique and had its own set of errors to be corrected. It took months to adjust the watches to the point where they were any better than other widely available timepieces. Customer Department at the Waltham Watch Company. In 1853, the factory building was completed and the company began doing business under the name American Horologe Company. ” The name was changed to “Boston Watch Company in September 1853, and the factory in Waltham, Massachusetts was built in October 1854. The movements produced here (serial numbers 1001 – 5000) were signed “Dennison, Howard, & Davis, ” C. The company went through a series of financial reorganizations and renamings over the next decades. It was reorganized as Tracy, Baker & Co. ” and later that same year the name was again changed to “Appleton, Tracy & Co and watches 5001 – 14,000 were produced. The first movements carried the Appleton, Tracy & Co. Waltham During the Civil War Years. In January, 1859 the Waltham Improvement Co. And the Appleton, Tracy & Co. Merged to form the American Watch Company. The dial department of the Waltham Watch factory. In 1860, as Abraham Lincoln was elected President and the country found itself in the throes of the Civil War, the American Watch Company was faced with serious financial problems. By 1861, business had come to a standstill and bankruptcy seemed inevitable. The factory was kept in operation through these years by cutting expenses to the lowest possible level… A strategy that proved successful. According to the biography by Carl Sandburg, Abraham Lincoln owned and carried a Waltham Wm. The watch was an 11-jewel, 18 size, key-wind in a silver hunter case, and was produced in January of 1863. In 1885, the company became the “American Waltham Watch Company”. In 1906 the company was renamed the “Waltham Watch Company”. In 1923, they became the “Waltham Watch and Clock Company” reflecting the new importance of clock manufacturing, but then in 1925 the name was changed back to “Waltham Watch Company”. American Horology owes much to the brilliant visionaries of the Waltham Watch Company. Bacon, Church, Dennison, Fogg, Howard, Marsh, Webster, and Woerd all contributed greatly to American watchmaking. Waltham continued to manufacture watches (and clocks) until 1957, when they ceased production and became the Waltham Precision Instrument Company. Antique Hamilton Grade 996, 19 J Railroad Pocket Watch. This antique railroad grade pocket watch is 16 size (case diameter 52 mm). The case is a factory display case marked Hamilton on both bezels. The case was given a gold wash in the distant past, and nicely shows the movement through the glass back. Yes, both crystals are beveled glass! The movement is a grade 996, lever set, 19 jewels, marked Adjusted 5 positions, and has gold jewel settings. Movement condition is excellent and this has the fancy damaskeening found on these early model Hamiltons. The dial is correct double sunk porcelain and bold numerals.
