This is an excellent antique Hamilton 16 size 21 jewel adjusted 992B pocket watch in a very nice 10k gold filled Hamilton case out of an estate! The lever-set movement has is marked: Hamilton Watch Co. 992B 21 Jewels Adj. And 6 Positions C232992. The double sunk porcelain dial is marked: Hamilton Railway Special. The dial has a crack in the finish between 9 and 10 o’clock – see photos. The watch will currently wind/set properly, and will run when wound. The case is in good condition, with light scratches, and a small ring of wear-through around the edge of the case back. Inside the case back is marked: Hamilton Watch Co. 10K Gold Filled Lancaster, PA. We do not know the service history on this watch, and recommend it be serviced to keep running and keep time. RARE AND HISTORICALLY INTERESTING! CAPTAIN’S DUAL TIME ZONE WATCH WITH A VERY RARE ALUMINUM CASE, MARKED WARRANTED ALUMINUM. There was a time in the mid 1800′s when Aluminum was more precious and costly than Gold. History has Napolean III serving his most honored guests with Aluminum tableware, while the less exalted attendees had to make do with silver! The use of Aluminum in Watch Cases is rare indeed. The use of this Metal in a Seafaring Timepiece is of interesting Historical note because of Aluminum’s oxidation resistance. This is the only timepiece of this type I have ever encountered. It has a “Warranted Aluminum” stamp that indicates the Material was still rare when the case was produced. The Movement dates to Ca. This would have been in a transitional period when Aluminum was probably still more precious than silver, but not ultra rare and valuable. The cost of producing Aluminum dropped rapidly as electrostatic collection methods were improved throughout the 1860′s and 70′s. With the advent of more modern electricity generation the cost of production and thus the cost of the metal itself dropped to a level where commercial industrial uses were possible. Nice Porcelain Dial with sub-seconds and 2 Time Zones on a single Train. Only very minor blems. 57mm Diameter Aluminum Case with some wear to plating. Case marked as: “Warranted Aluminum”, with a Crown. Hinge is perfect and tight, spring is good and firm, and cover does not open past 90 degrees. Cuvette Marked Double Timer, Full Jewelled. Overall Excellent condition with minor wear and signs of age as noted. Minor Blems to dial, minor loss of plating or simply rubbing to oxidation on case. Minute hand shows tarnish. FINE 10k GOLD LADIES HUNTING CASE POCKET WATCH BY ELGIN. FOR MARSHALL FIELD CO 1895. The serial number dates it to 1895. Superb engraved case, the cartouche bears no monogram. Delicate original gold hands. Straight from a safe deposit box. The case is superb… 10k solid yellow gold… Hinges are solid and work well with good snap. That mark is unknown to us. The watch is about 2 1/4″ tall and 1 1/2″ wide. The watch appears to run strongly. It started right up. It has been running for several hours. We assume it will need a cleaning, service, repairs etc. The weight is 53.32 grams. The case is unmarked as to purity, we had it laser tested, it is solid 10K yellow gold- not gold plated.
