A very interesting and most important large triple case Doctors watch in mint condition under painted horn case watch. MADE BY JOHN WARD LONDON. In MINT condition with a great colour and nice shine you can even see the reflection of me. ALL the pins are in place.. UNDER PAINTED HORN WAS A TECHNIQUE USED ON VERY EXPENSIVE WATCHES , AND WAS SIMILAR TO GLASS MINIATURES AND THE WORK WAS EXECUTED BY THE SAME ARTISTS. The second case is in very good condition with a very nice watch makers paper to round it off. The inner case with the watch size is 48 m. All the hinges work well on the cases. The dial is in very good condition. Very very fine original black hands. The glass is very high clean and clear. The fire gilt movement look just like the day it left the work shop. The watch runs well. C + OR- 2- 3 minutes per hour. To stop the watch there is a slider by 10 move it up or down to stop and start. With a very very fine engraved back plate with a decorated and engraved balance cock and a silver Tompion regulator. Highly unusual original English bridge type balance clock. A scintillating feature if this watch is that it demonstrates a cylinder escapement of the highest quality and its unusually made of steel rather than typical brass which was commonly used in this period. According to a late 19th century pamphlet; the cylinder steel escape wheel would have taken a highly skilled watch maker one day and a half to produce and another day to finish.
