In heavy, stylish and beautifully made eighteen carat gold pair cases 57mm diameter. Both hallmarked 1806, case maker IN. Both movement and case are all original and in great condition. Case joints are perfect, and closes with no jumping. No old damage or repairs. The movement is in exceptional condition and runs well, it has recently been serviced. Verge fusee movement is all exquisitely finished with a superbly pierced and engraved balance cock and slide plate with the fire gilding perfect. With fitted dust cap. Verge escapement has jewelled balance holes, with a facetted diamond endstone on the balance cock. Beautiful dead white gloss enamel dial in perfect original condition, no chips cracks etc. And with no horrible acrylic’restoration. Stop lever for hack function if it is required to check the pulse etc. This watch is altogether in very good condition and appears not to have had much use. Together with morocco box. Silver pair cases, verge pocket watch, champleve calendar dial – London, c1700. Edmund Marsh, London, c1700. Silver pair cases, 56.5 mm. A good early London verge with original champleve calendar dial, in silver pair cases. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with finely engraved and pierced winged balance cock, showing birds and a mask at the neck. Four tulip pillars and silver regulator disk. MARSH, LONDON and numbered (2538). The movement and calendar are both working. DIAL : Silver champleve dial, with calendar aperture, in very good condition. Nice original 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks. In quite good condition, though the pendant has been reattached and reinforced on the inside. However the pendant and bow appear to be original (of the correct simple style for c1700). There is a small section of the inner rim (about 10 mm) broken off the inner rim at 7 and a couple of old repairs. The hinge is worn, but complete. The high dome crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with large square hinge (7 sleeves). Again with no hallmarks. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. There are a couple of old repairs to the bezel and back, visible on the inside only, and some small bruises throughout. A large London verge, with fine and rare mock pendulum movement. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced winged balance cock and plate, silver regulator disk and three tulip pillars (and one round). The balance cock table, beautifully engraved with birds and foliage, is cut out and glazed to reveal a mock pendulum bob, which is attached to the 2 spoke balance wheel. All in good complete condition, with the the gilding still bright, and the movement is running well. There are some scratches around the pillar tops and small chips to the corders of the glass set into the balance cock. DIAL : Fine, original, silver champleve dial, signed in the centre Farmer, London. All in good condition with no excessive rubbing or wear. Nice original early 18th century blued steel hands, though with some damage to the tip of the minute. INNER CASE : Silver with rubbed makers mark CW. In reasonable condition with some small dents and scratches. The pendant has been repaired, possibly a replacement. The high dome, bulls eye crystal is good. The hinge is fine, and the bezel snaps shut securely, though gapes slightly on the left side. OUTER CASE : Silver, with matching makers mark CW to the inner, and case serial number 639. Again in reasonable condition throughout, with just some small dents and a hole on the bezel at the catch. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine, and the case snaps shut correctly. The makers mark and serial number have been heavily stamped to the inside of the back, and these marks show through on the outside of the back. Richard Farmer is listed in London from 1675 until 1688, and in the Clockmakers Company between 1683 and 1688. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, diamond endstone, polished steel escape wheel, four round pillars, and blued screws. A lever on the side of the dial at 8 oclock stops and restarts the movement. Signed and numbered (3483). This movement is in excellent condition, and is running well. DIAL : Beautiful, signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds. Matching arrowhead gold hands. All in excellent condition. INNER CASE : Yellow metal, with no makers mark. In very good condition throughout. The high dome bulls eye crystal is also fine. OUTER CASE : Yellow metal, again with no makers mark. The hinge, catch and catch button are all fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. John Leroux (1750 1805) is listed at 8 Charing Cross, London. A large, early English verge with original champleve dial, in silver pair cases. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with finely engraved and pierced winged balance cock, showing birds and a mask at the neck. Four crested tulip pillars and silver regulator disk. In good condition and working. DIAL : Silver champleve dial, with gilt centre, in very good condition. Signed MEYER on the central disc, which also features a lion and unicorn under a crown and above a mask. INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks but makers mark SB (crowned). In good condition, with just a few light bruises. The pendant has been reattached and with the bow are later replacements. The hinge and the high dome crystal are fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with large square hinge (7 sleeves). Again with no hallmarks. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. Some small bruises throughout. The Lion and Unicorn form the coat of arms of the British monarch (hence the crown) so this watch was probably made in London, around 1700. The makers mark on the inner case may be for Samuel Bowtell, whose marks (with and without the crown) have been seen on cases between about 1690 and 1710.
