This watch is a very large mens 18 size housed in a silver (nickel) open face display case. This watch is a true rarity as it is a private label piece marked The Railroader 17 Jewel Bunn. This piece is interesting as it should be the last of a run of 16 Jewel Bunns but is marked 17 Jewels. This makes this piece one of the very first 17 Jewel Bunns made as they were moving from 15 and 16 jewel to Bunns to 17 jewel Bunns at this point. Very few of these The Railroader pieces were made. One more element that makes this even more collectible is that it is two tone! What a watch, hard to find another Bunn this rare or should I say scarce. An awesome Bunn to add to your collection. The movement is in great condition as you can see. The Bunn grade is very sought after and was one of the highest grades of watches on offer from the Illinois Watch Company at the time. The watch is privately labelled to S. The watch has Ruby jewels in screwed down solid gold jewel settings and has solid gold balance screws. It also has gold inlaid engraving which is all still intact and in fantastic condition; and check out that incredibly detailed two tone damaskeening WOW! This is a railroad grade watch and is adjusted to temperature, positions and isochronism. The movements serial number is 1178400 making it 127 years old. The double sunk dial on this watch is in good presentable condition and is the correct dial for this movement. It has the correctly private labelled dial for S. This dial does have a few small and light hairlines and one chip but still is presentable and great that it is original. The case is a very nice and heavy nickel open face display case. The lids snap on well with no gaps at all as you can see in the photos. The watch is stem wound and the hands are lever set. The hands set very well and the watch currently runs well. The silver cases have matching hallmarks for London 1768/9, initials’WM’ (with crown above for William Matthews I believe). The cases are in good condition, as per photos. The hinges are tight and covers lock shut (flush finish all round when shut), the catch on the outer cover is in good working order. The outer case measures 52mm in diameter and the inner case 42mm in diameter. The convex enamel dial is in good condition, a couple of small very faint scratches. The bulls-eye glass crystal is in good condition. The hands are in good condition. The very decorative movement is signed’T Whiskin, London’ and numbered’20′. The movement is in good clean condition and working order (just ran for 24 hours from full wind and lost 20 minutes over that time). The movement runs in all positions apart from face down where it tends to stop on occasion. The movement includes square pillars, external mainspring tensioner and a decorative scroll finish to the movement latch spring. The movement is key wind and set, which work fine, key included.
