Late 19th Century American Waltham 17 Jewel Crescent Nickel Case Pocket Watch

This is a stunning piece that has been in the family for quite some time. This is an Open Face American Waltham pocket watch, in a Crescent Watch Company nickel based watch case. This pocket watch has been in the family for generations, and (quite incredibly) in all its time has maintained perfect function. The pocket watch is large, and heavy – Open Face in style with a hanging loop. The “crystal” covering on this pocket watch is a very old thick plastic, red orange in color. I’ve never seen a Waltham Open Face as old as such with a red/orange covering. I have always found the contrast between the nickel case, deep gold hued brass winding crown, and red/orange “crystal” to be quite breathtaking. The dial color on this American Waltham Pocket watch is a high white – though (of course) it appears red orange through the thick age old plastic crystal. The dial is roman numeral, with spaced minute markers (and Arabic numerals every 5 minutes). There is a second hand dial, with indicators marks for every passing second and Arabic numerals (10-60 seconds). Just under the Roman Numeral 12, there is “Waltham” brand insignia. The hands, Roman numerals, Arabic numerals, and all indicators on the dial are black in color – up against the white dial (very legible). The bezel at the front is screw fastened. Once the front bezel is unscrewed and removed, pulling the winding crown up will free the internal timekeeping mechanism. There is a hinge, and the internal timekeeping mechanism can be flipped up – revealing the interior of the back of the Crescent case. While this pocket watch is stunning at the exterior, the true beauty of this timepiece comes at the interior. The movement is very ornate, elegantly etched in meticulously inlaid pattern and design. Thorned vines of dark black sprawl across the movement in finite detail. “American Waltham Watch Co” is engraved in a whimsical font that becomes one with the inlaid vines. The balance wheel, screws, micrometer are a high polish gold tone. The movement is marked “17 Jewels, ” as well as 16910930. ” The inside back of the case (visible when the movement is flipped up and pictured above) is stamped “Trade Mark with crescent and star – the Crescent Watch Company logo. The number 4681 is imprinted right below the Crescent logo. There are some sequences of numbers and letters hand etched in the interior of the case: seen above in the listing photos. They are: F3986, F6996, F9354, along with three other indecipherable sequences. 5.5 cm Wide by 5.5 cm Height (excluding winding crown). With winding crown about 7.7 cm in height. Overall, this is truly a one of a kind antique. A family heirloom that we hope to pass on to a new family… A family that can give it all of the love, admiration, and care we have through all the years. I will get back to you promptly. LATE 1800s LADIES POCKET WATCH With SUPERB 14K GOLD CASE & GREAT DIAL

SUPERB 14K GOLD CASE / GREAT DIAL / LATE 1800s LADIES POCKET WATCH. No makers name on the movement or dial. The 14k gold decorative case is 32.8mm in diameter, with the pocket watch having an overall weight 28.5 grams. The inside of the case back is faintly stamped 14K. Very good dial & a great case. Local Brisbane pick-up welcomed. This is the buyers / importers responsibility. We are constantly adding to our ever increasing range and have a large assortment of American Railroad Grade Pocket Watches. American Railroad Pocket watches. Were amongst the highest grade watches made, having been made for the railways makes them a great choice to use every day, mainly for their durability over time. Their lower production quantities and of course their high grade movements make them also a great gift or investment. A typical railroad’s requirements for a pocket watch in the early 20th century might include. Only American-made watches may be used (depending on availability of spare parts). Only open-faced dials, with the stem at 12 o. Minimum of 17 functional jewels in the movement. Size 16 or 18 only. Maximum variation of 30 seconds (approximately 4 seconds daily) per weekly check. Watch adjusted to at least five positions: Face up and face down (the positions a watch might commonly take when laid on a flat surface); then crown up, crown pointing left, and crown pointing right (the positions a watch might commonly take in a pocket). Occasionally a sixth position, crown pointing down, would be included. Adjusted for severe temperature variance and isochronism (variance in spring tension). Indication of time with bold legible Arabic numerals, outer minute division, second dial, heavy hands. Lever used to set the time (no risk of inadvertently setting the watch to an erroneous time, when winding the watch with the stem). Anti-magnetic protection (after the advent of diesel-electric locomotives). The minimum requirements were raised several times as watch-making technology progressed, and the watch companies produced newer, even more reliable models. By WW2, many railroads required watches that were of a much higher grade (as many as 23 jewels, for example) than those made to comply with the original 1891 standard. _gsrx_vers_854 GS 7.0.18 (854). LATE MODEL DEAD ACCURATE HAMILTON 950B 16S 23J 6P RR-GRADE MOD #17 CASE GOT R. R

THANK YOU for considering our highest quality, strong running and almost perfectly accurate Hamilton Grade 950B railroad-grade watch. Here are the details. S18267, circa 1953, 16 size, open face, 23 jewels, adjusted temperature and 6 positions, double roller, Model 6, Grade 950B, Elinvar bimetallic hairspring, cupped gold jewel settings, gold balance screws, ¾ nickel plate, stem wind, lever set beauty. This late-model superlative condition 950B movement is in tip-top working order, with a dead flat and true balance wheel that has a wide, fine arc and a strong, steady beat. The movement is a solid wind, starts up with a single flick of the wrist (950Bs like their little brother, the 992Bs, are notoriously stiff starters), and lever sets as designed. The movement holds almost perfect computer time after years of careful and prolonged regulating. With respect to appearance, this movement is looking top-flight, with a high degree of brilliance to its toning, no tarnish, 100% spotless winding wheels, no stains or fading, no jeweler’s marks, all apparata complete and running strong and true holding railroad time! Dial : Pristine perfect condition Hamilton “Blindman Monty” “Hamilton Railway Special” style, 16 size, open face, non-sunk enamel, super bold black Arabic numerals with surrounding red five-minute-markers and black minute-markers, 3-post dial! This dial is in just about as perfect condition as can be imagined, with not even the slightest suggestion of anything approaching a hairline, chip, crack, chaffing, stain or scratch! Hands : RR bold original finish black new-old-stock (NOS) matching spade hour and pointer minute hands in superlative condition, with close to 100% of the original lacquer finish intact and correct for any 950B! Case : Correct for the late-model Grade 950B of this era marked bar-over-crown (BOC) “Hamilton Watch Company” Case Model #17 by Star WCCo. 16 size, open face, 10K yellow gold fill, slot right, screw-back-and-bezel case! Here’s Hamilton’s last and arguably best bar-over railroad case, the #17, with the smooth back, nicely engraved edges, the thick neck, wide and wind-able original crown, classic bar-over feature, distinct model bow and all the classic railroad-ready features!! This highly collectible and fine case is in fully serviceable condition. I have restored and detailed this case right down to the threads so you get the best looking and working case possible! The back and bezel thread up easily, screw on and off smoothly, and both seat tight. The correct signed original “Hamilton Railroad” crown’s fluting is still sharp and defined for a tight, sure grip, and it turns freely but, by design, does not extract, so only a lever-set e. Hamilton railroad-grade movement will work inside. The bow is also correct, shows zero brass or damage, and holds tight to positions. The bar-over is correct and about 92% winding wear-free!! The crystal is a brand-new looking beveled mineral glass model with zero issues. The case does show exceedingly minimal wear, including superficial exterior scratches only and one more prominent scratch, no marrings or doodlings, zero brass anywhere whatsoever, and absolutely, positively no sign of any dents, dings, dimples or depressions! I’ve owned this fine timepiece for 20-odd years and it has always run accurately and never failed to please and delight!! Please examine each photo carefully for further details, as the photos control over this written description. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: The large print giveth and the small print taketh away! No questions asked, just return it well re-packaged and in the same condition in which received. A picture truly tells 1000 words and the photos here control over any written description. I try my best to describe each item accurately but can miss things, so evaluate the photos carefully because they tell the whole story. Please bear in mind that these items are used and old , and may not always be 100% original or even complete. We do not end auctions early and do not offer Second Chance offers ever. LATE MODEL DEAD ACCURATE WALTHAM VANGUARD 16S 23J 6P WIND INDICATOR WALTHAM CASE

THANK YOU for considering our late-model, dead accurate pristine condition Waltham “Vanguard” 16 size 23 jewel Model 1908 Wind Indicator. Here’s the poop. 27,537,671, circa 1931, 16 size, open face, 23 jewels, adjusted to temperature and 6 positions, Model 1908, Grade Vanguard Wind Indicator, Lossier Inner Terminal hairspring, large raised gold jewel settings, gold center wheel, huge all-gold balance screws, bridge nickel plate, stem wind, lever set railroad-approved movement. Here’s a latter-day Vanguard W. Looking really sharp and keeping near perfect time! This fine antique watch is in excellent working order, with a dead flat and true balance wheel motion that has a fine, wide arc and a strong, steady beat. The movement is a smooth wind, starts right up on my 3rd wind with no jiggling, and lever sets as designed. The wind-indicator needle works great and is set at the right position. The movement holds time within 30 seconds per week face-up after years of careful and prolonged hand-regulating! Appearance-wise this movement is looking terrific, with 100% bright and spotless winding wheels, brilliantly bright and clean bridge nickel plates with all of the eye-catching gold engraving paint intact, spotless correct screw micrometer regulator, super pristine looking inside, and ripping and running keeping railroad time! Dial : Waltham’s correct all-black wind-indicator “Boxcar” Arabic numerals with heavy black minute marks. This fine dial is in super excellent condition. It is clean and fine all the way around except for a little hairline area to the upper left of the wind chapter between “11″ and “12, ” and one short hairline between the top of the sub-seconds chapter and the center hole. Otherwise mint condition all the way around! Hands : Original finish (not doctored up aftermarket) blue matching “whip” style hands. These hands are correct to this model, RR-bold blue design and enjoy near-complete blue finishing intact! Case : “Waltham” signed original Keystone J. Boss 10K smooth Deco style yellow gold fill, slot left only, screw-back-and-bezel railroad case! Here’s KJB’s 1930s Deco style railroad dedicated case, with the period popular triple concentric circling pattern, smooth, mirrory back, thick railroad neck, wide, wind-able crown, and matching Deco engraved bow!!! This correct and fine signed “Waltham” case is in fully serviceable condition. I have restored and detailed this case right down to the threads so you get the best looking and working case possible! The back and bezel thread up easily, screw on and off smoothly, and both seat tight. The correct original crown’s fluting is still super crisp and distinct for a tight, sure grip, and it turns freely but does not extract, so only a left-side lever-set e. Waltham railroad-grade movement will work inside. The bow is also correct and matching, shows zero brass or damage, and just barely swings loose, holding tight at its peripheries. The crystal is a brand-new “bull’s-eye” style beveled mineral glass model and has zero issues. The case does show remarkably minimal wear after presumed years of working on the railroad, including very faint and evenly distributed pocket wear, zero marrings or doodlings, zero brass, and no sign of any dents, dings, dimples or depressions other than one itty-bitty little ding toward the edge of the back!! I’ve owned this fine timepiece for 20-odd years and it has always run accurately and never failed to please and delight!! Please examine each photo carefully for further details, as the photos control over this written description. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: The large print giveth and the small print taketh away!
