THIS IS A WATCH OF BEAUTIFUL QUALITY. FULLY SERVICED BY MY WATCHMAKER. The stunning case to this beautiful OMEGA watch is solid 18 carat gold. IT IS A VERY GOOD QUALITY GOLD CASE. The case back has the most beautiful foliate and scrolling design which is crisp, showing no apparent wear. The cartouche is engraved with the words’May 1906′. I can see no dings to the eye. The back and front covers snap to very well. I have gently polished the case, and it is shining nicely, as only hi grade solid 18 carat gold can. The dust cover is gold metal and is in good condition showing some patina and light marks where it has been opened and NO dings. The inside of the case has the initials L. Which are for Louis Weill (Weill & Co) who was a London based German supplier of watches of high grade such as IWC, Longines, Omega etc. The chain ring is gold plated. THE WATCH MEASURES 3.2 CMS (32mm) IN DIAMETER. The DOUBLE CASE HINGES to the front rear show no signs of abuse. This gorgeous OMEGA watch has a fantastic original dial. It could be solid gold as some were but I have not had it tested. It is in good condition for its 100 years + age with patina in places. It is unsigned as you would expect. It has beautiful Roman black painted numerals, which are lovely and original showing a liitle wear to some numerals (see pics). The crystal is a new replacement and as such is in minty condition. The dial has MINT blued steel hands. This is a really fantastic original dial. This is a beautiful Swiss top quality original crown wind and pin set high quality JEWELED LEVER GENUINE OMEGA early movement with a compensated balance and lovely blued hairspring. It is clearly marked’OMEGA’ in a circle UNDER THE DIAL. It is also NUMBERED under the dial. The number is 2311562 which also dates this watch to circa 1906. The watch exudes quality so it is a high end product. The movement is running well and has just been FULLY SERVICED by my watchmaker. It is running well and has kept decent time as tested over the last 12 hours The watch winds smoothly and pin sets as it should. The rear cover features an extravagant age worn urn of flowers surrounded by florals, scrolls & flourishes as seen in the closeups. The rear cover interior is signed WARRANTED 14K U. Antique 16 size 21 jewel Elgin in a B&B favotite 25 year gold filled hunting case. Serial # dates this watch at 1908. Watch is in running condition and kept time for a peroid of over 24 hours or so. Gondolos stratagem in Brazil Patek Philippe was one of the first watchmaking firms to enjoy business relations with the United States, dating from 1851, when it signed an exclusive agreement with Tiffany & Co. The founders letters, carefully preserved in Patek Philippes archives, are a fascinating record of the perils to which the traveller was exposed at that time. The firm had been present in Latin America since the 1870s, but sales in this market really took off towards the end of the nineteenth century, when business relations began with distributors Gondolo & Labouriau, in Rio de Janeiro. Carlos Gondolo and his partner, Paulo Labouriau, had devised an ingenious sales method. This consisted of a buyers club for 180 watch enthusiasts. The first week, the members paid ten dollars a week and then drew lots, with the winner acquiring a Patek Philippe. The timepiece in question was the celebrated Chronometro Gondolo, a calibre specially created for Gondolo and found in no other Patek Philippe timepiece. The second week, the remaining 179 members again paid ten dollars, and so on until the seventy-ninth week, when all the remaining members, each of whom had paid 790 dollars, received a Patek Philippe watch. The trade name Chronometro Gondolo was registered at 8 oclock on March 10, 1902 under the N° 14401. The Chronometro Gondolo was manufactured with a range of watch-cases (in gold, in silver or in niello silver), dials (divided in 12 or 24 hours) and hands. The movement diameters varied between 10 to 22 lines, a unit of measurement used for indicating the size of the movement. A line is equivalent to 2.256 mm giving rise to cases from 32 to 57 mm in size. The Chronometro Gondolo movements had to incorporate the following technical features to meet the latters requirements: – An ébauche (blank movement) based on a patented design by Adrien Philippe (US Patent N° 20483 of January 13, 1891) equipped with transmission and ratchet-wheels of the mainspring barrel arbor (winding wheels) with wolfs teeth toothing. The mainspring barrel arbor was built with a square indentation for releasing (unwinding) the barrel spring. A wheel train in 9 carat gold.
