Our company is based in the UK. A top frame in a marriage watchcases usually being open only for installing of a movement. That is why we designed our cases with very tightly fit press closing top frame, which made it better moisture proof. To open it first loosen the frame by very lightly hammering a scalpel or any very thin blade into the gap in 2/3 places. It should make a small gap. Than use thinly sharpened back case opener or knife. Be careful not to scratch edges of both top frame and the case body. Our cases are designed to fit most sizes of movements. Nevertheless when installing any movement a slight adjustment of the case is required. For example, depending on the movement, a hole for a stem could be drilled in position 3 or 12 and a hole for a pusher in any appropriate position for a movement. The diameter of movements which can be fitted without any further adjustment to the case is 41.5 mm with a dial diameter of 43 mm. However using a watchmaker’s lathe our cases can be prepared for movements up to 44.5 mm and dials for up to 45 mm. It is worth noting that some movements have superfluous overhangs in the main plate. These could be easily turned, cutting down the diameter of the movement. When preparing antique movements for marriage watches we strongly recommend using a professional watchmaker familiar with the process. A good early London verge with original champleve calendar dial, in silver pair cases. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with finely engraved and pierced winged balance cock, showing birds and a mask at the neck. Four tulip pillars and silver regulator disk. MARSH, LONDON and numbered (2538). The movement and calendar are both working. DIAL : Silver champleve dial, with calendar aperture, in very good condition. Nice original 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks. In quite good condition, though the pendant has been reattached and reinforced on the inside. However the pendant and bow appear to be original (of the correct simple style for c1700). There is a small section of the inner rim (about 10 mm) broken off the inner rim at 7 and a couple of old repairs. The hinge is worn, but complete. The high dome crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with large square hinge (7 sleeves). Again with no hallmarks. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. There are a couple of old repairs to the bezel and back, visible on the inside only, and some small bruises throughout. A large London verge, with fine and rare mock pendulum movement. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced winged balance cock and plate, silver regulator disk and three tulip pillars (and one round). The balance cock table, beautifully engraved with birds and foliage, is cut out and glazed to reveal a mock pendulum bob, which is attached to the 2 spoke balance wheel. All in good complete condition, with the the gilding still bright, and the movement is running well. There are some scratches around the pillar tops and small chips to the corders of the glass set into the balance cock. DIAL : Fine, original, silver champleve dial, signed in the centre Farmer, London. All in good condition with no excessive rubbing or wear. Nice original early 18th century blued steel hands, though with some damage to the tip of the minute. INNER CASE : Silver with rubbed makers mark CW. In reasonable condition with some small dents and scratches. The pendant has been repaired, possibly a replacement. The high dome, bulls eye crystal is good. The hinge is fine, and the bezel snaps shut securely, though gapes slightly on the left side. OUTER CASE : Silver, with matching makers mark CW to the inner, and case serial number 639. Again in reasonable condition throughout, with just some small dents and a hole on the bezel at the catch. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine, and the case snaps shut correctly. The makers mark and serial number have been heavily stamped to the inside of the back, and these marks show through on the outside of the back. Richard Farmer is listed in London from 1675 until 1688, and in the Clockmakers Company between 1683 and 1688. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, diamond endstone, polished steel escape wheel, four round pillars, and blued screws. A lever on the side of the dial at 8 oclock stops and restarts the movement. Signed and numbered (3483). This movement is in excellent condition, and is running well. DIAL : Beautiful, signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds. Matching arrowhead gold hands. All in excellent condition. INNER CASE : Yellow metal, with no makers mark. In very good condition throughout. The high dome bulls eye crystal is also fine. OUTER CASE : Yellow metal, again with no makers mark.
