Bunn Special 23J 60 Hour. 16 size 23 jewel open face lever-set Bunn Special 60 Hour pocketwatch. Very nice looking example of this top grade railroad watch fronted by a double-sunk enamel “Illinois, Bunn Special, 23 Jewel 60 Hour” signed dial and housed in the very attractive white gold-filled Model 206 Bunn Special case. Movement is the scarcer late marking variant of the Type III 60 hour which was produced after Hamilton’s takeover and is marked as “Illinois Watch” rather than Illinois Watch Co. Movement serial number is 5218769. Running and a beautiful movement with excellent color and luster. Dial faces up very nicely but does have a light hairline in the center section and also two very light hairlines at the bottom below the seconds-bit. Case has an excellent in hand look and feel and is far stronger than most Model 206 examples and case has just some weakness to the bow with some minor wear to brass on the bow, some looseness/play to the bow, and a small split to part of the lower left portion of the bow where it meets the neck. This is a beautiful 18s 24 jewels illinois Bunn Special Model 6 in an wonderful heavy box hinged Fahys-Montauk #1 case. Serial number is 1524263. Lever set stem wind, bright spotted finish pattern , Olde English movement type. Double roller 6 adjustments to time and isochronism. Watch winds and sets smoothly. Running great but hasn’t been checked for accuracy. Screw in gold jewel settings. The large heavy box hinged case is in great condition minus a few scratches on back of which can be seen in picture. Watch must have been made on a monday….. First model case was stamped model 29 and case number is off by 1. Case marked 8108048 while hang tag is maked 8108049. All case numbers match! There are only a few of these mismarked watches known to exist. Making this a rare and highly collectable piece. Crown is original crystal is glass threads are great no dings dents or brass. Movement has been serviced and watch keeps excellent time. Movement number 4962331 is stunning in appearance. Original box is in excellent condition and comes with hang tag andburlap bunn sachel. You just dont see these boxed sets come up very often. And the error stamped case only adds value. Dial is metal and correct. This is a piece worthy of the finest collections. Here are the details. 3,693,030, circa 1920, 17 size, open face, 23 jewels, adjusted to temperature and 6 positions, Model 10, Grade Sangamo Special, large raised gold jewel settings, full exposed gold train, gold balance screws, bridge nickel plate, stem wind, lever set railroad-grade movement. This fine antique watch is in excellent working order, with a dead flat and true balance wheel motion that has a fine, wide arc and strong, steady beat. The movement is a smooth wind, starts right up on my 3rd wind with no effort, and lever sets as designed. The movement holds excellent time but has not been further regulated or adjusted! Appearance-wise this movement is looking great, and I regret that these photos do not quite do it full justice. It has bright, spotlessly clean winding wheels, brilliantly bright and clean bridge nickel plates, all of the eye-catching red engraving paint intact, spotless correct elongated regulator needle and whip, super pristine looking down inside, and running strong and true! Dial : Illinois “Blindman” style, 16 size, open face, double sunk enamel, ultra bold black Arabic numerals with surrounding “arrows-in” black five-minute-markers dial! This dial is in perfect condition, with nary a sign of any hairlines, chips, cracks, chaffing, stains or scratches!! Hands : Illinois 16 size, factory original (not doctored-up after-market) plum colored matching “whip” design. This fine set of hands are in excellent condition, entirely unbent and undamaged, with darn near 100% of the factory-original plum coloring still intact! Case : Star model 10K warm-toned rose gold fill, pendant set and slot right, screw-back-and-bezel model! This case is in fully serviceable condition. I have restored and detailed this case right down to the threads so you get the best looking and working case possible! The back and bezel thread up easily, screw on and off smoothly, and both seat tight. The correct original crown’s fluting is super crisp and distinct for a tight, sure grip, and it turns freely. The bow is also its correct original, shows zero brass or damage, and swings loose. The crystal is a brand new looking thick beveled mineral glass model with no issues. The case does show minimal wear, including light, even carrying wear, zero marrings or doodlings, zero brass anywhere detectable to the attractive rose gold finish, and absolutely, positively no sign of any dents, dings, dimples or depressions! I’ve owned this fine timepiece for 20-odd years and it has always run accurately and never failed to please and delight!! Excellent example of this top grade railroad watch fronted by its correct double-sunk enamel dial marked “Illinois, Bunn Special, 23 Jewel 60 Hour” and housed in a yellow gold-filled Model 108 Bunn Special case. Movement serial number is 5390960. Running and a beautiful movement with excellent color and luster. Dial is beautiful with just a very faint hairline in the small space of the inner chapter between the center hole and the top of the seconds-bit, this hairline crosses the number “6″ in the “60 Hour” marking. Case is very nice with an excellent in hand look and feel, but removing the bezel reveals an additional lever-set slot filed at the 11 O’clock area. 16 size 21 jewel hunting case lever-set Bunn Special pocketwatch with a very attractive 14K gold hunting case. Beautiful rare high grade watch, the hunting case 16 size Bunn Specials are rare and this particular variant is identified as a “Type C” in Mike Chamelin’s book and is shown with an estimated total production of only 650 made. Watch is fronted by a double-sunk enamel dial with curved “Illinois” signature and is housed in a 14K gold Keystone case with attractive engraving. Total watch weight is 56.8 dwt. Movement serial number is 4216262. Running and a very nice looking movement with good color and luster. Dial is beautiful with just a very faint hairline in the outer chapter at the 14 minute position. Case is very attractive but is relatively lightweight and has some dings and marks around its frame. Liftspring for front of case needs a small bit of help through the start of the opening motion, and front lid of case goes a bit past 90 degrees as shown in side view below. Vintage Hamilton 992B 21 jewel railway special pocket watch. The case is 10k yellow gold plated. The watch runs great and winds easily. There is heavy scratching on the case and crystal.
