1881 Elgin National Watch Company 15 Jewels B. Adjusted Quick Train 18s Brass Movement Hand Wind and Lever Set low serial 885,685. Very Rare DISPLAY SALESMAN case with Belt Clip. Great Looking Elgin Watch Company. Dial without any hairlines. Raymond movement very clean for 141 year old watch! Thick Crystal Glasses with scratches typical for was being in use for years. Winds and sets as it should (Time set with lever located at 5:00 o’clock). Runs very well and keeps time, but was not timed for accuracy so some service may be needed. The Belt Clip is included. Benjamin Wright Raymond, the first president and one of the investors in the National Watch Company of Chicago. Raymond served as president from the organization of the company in 1864 until October 10, 1867. Elgin National Watch Company was founded in 1864, right as the civil war was coming to an end. WWII Elgin Railroad Grade 478 B. Raymond 16S 21J Jewel Pocket Watch with a Custom Navy Case. This a very unique U. Navy presentation pocket watch. This watch had to be special as Elgin was supplying watches to government contracts for the war effort. I have not seen one before like it and probably never will. It looks like it was put away and not used much. It is in excellent original condition for the age. Just light normal wear. Silveroid and Gold Filled. It has a raised Navy Fouled Anchor on the back case cover. Covers screw on nicely. The back cover does stick sometimes at the very end of opening it and you have to give it a little lift with your finger nail. It may have a small bur on the thread. The dial has a couple faint hairlines. The close up photos and lighting gave them a blue tint but you can hardly see them with the eye. The crystal has light surface scratches. It is running strong and keeping good time. I do not know the service history so I can’t guarantee to continued accuracy. I would have this special watch serviced as a baseline.
