1890 RARE PAIR CASED / ONLY 69000 MADE ELGIN G M WHEELER SILVER 18S POCKET WATCH. Ll be honest, its the first time I have ever seen an Elgin pair case pocket watch, even rarer with the large gold image of a horse & jockey on the back!!!! 1890, G M Wheeler, Grade 44, Model 5, Class 9, 18S, either 15J or 17J, stem set with date serial number 3506121. Research revealed that a total of only 69,000 were produced of this model during 1890 making it quite rare, even rare being pair cased. Working, ticking strongly and was tested over a 19 hour period and kept near perfect time, maybe lost 10 to 20 seconds. May need a service though as when winding, the winder pulled out of the stem. The outer Fays Senior Coin (silver). Case is 58.4mm in diameter with serial number U3076. The inner case is 50.2mm in diameter, same serial number U3076 but is not stamped silver. Dial has a few cracks, glass has wear, unsure if the horse and jockey are gold or gold plated. Local Brisbane pick-up welcomed. Only 7,000 of this model was made during 1907 making it very collectable, even more so in a 14k case, you have to wonder how many still exist. Up for sale is a beautiful antique 14s Waltham model 1884 Chronograph pocket watch. It was made in 1886 and is all original. This watch was serviced and runs very well. Serviced : This watch was serviced on 07-21-19. All parts were removed, cleaned, oiled, and the watch was adjusted to keep good time. Movement : This watch runs great and keeps very good time. The beautiful Chronograph movement is in very good condition. It has 13 jewels, the original balance wheel, and all matching serial numbers! Dial : The original Waltham dial is in nice condition. I see one hairline. Case : The beautiful original gold filled hunter case is in good condition. The covers open and close as they should. Movement is marked J. Stevens and Bro, Atlanta, Ga, 140228. Watch is running and keeping time. Case is 54 mm diameter. The watch is stem wind and lever set. When I say it’s keeping time…. I wound it and let it run for 24 hours or more, mostly face up, but I did make sure it was face down for shorter periods also. I did a rough setting of time, probably within a minute or two, and let it run for 24 hours and it was still within a minute or two. This was rough testing and they were not set to the exact second, so it may be off by 2 seconds a day, maybe 2 minutes a day. All of these pocket watches are in the state I found them. I did not make any effort to lubricate, clean the dial/crystal, polish case, or anything similar. You might see specks of dirt on the dial or crystal. Some have faint hairlines. Some have tiny dings or scratches or tiny chips on the crystal. Please rely on the photos to assess the overall condition. I just recently acquired these 2 days ago and I do not know any service history. That being said, any watch may have possible been lubricated a week ago, or may have never been serviced at all. I simply do not know any history. All cases close properly unless stated otherwise, meaning the covers screw on or snap on well, front covers of hunter case watches close and spring open as they should, etc. Gold filled cases may have minor spots of brassing.
