Antique Waltham Solid Gold Hunters Cased Pocket Watch for Restoration. 8 Size 7 Jewel William Ellery Grade Keywind Keyset Movement from 1879. Porcelain Glass Enamel Dial with Blued Finished Spade Style Hands. 14K Solid Gold Hunters Case weighs in at 30.3g(without crystal or movement). 42.6mm in Diameter(not including crown or bow). This lot comes to you AS-IS with no implied warranties or guarantees. This watch comes to you as found and as shown. It is currently not running however, the balance staff appears to be good as there is no wobble to the balance wheel. The movement’s case screw is broken off and thus just sitting in the case loose. The bezel will not snap closed due to the screw not seating the movement in the case properly. The crystal is missing from the bezel. Beautiful hunter’s case stamped A. Does not have a gold stamp but it acid tests as solid gold and tested with a reading of 14K. These particular size cases are known by Waltham experts to often be cased in solid gold cases even though there are no trademarks indicating the gold content. The covers open and close as they should having good hinges, mostly able to hold position when opened. The front cover spring is weak or broken as the cover does not “pop” up when the crown is depressed. Swing out, and it has deep dings on the edge of the case and a couple on the back. The glass crystal is in good condition with only light usage wear with no cracks or chips. The dial has a hairline from 12 to the 11 and a hairline from the 4/5 and 5 to the subdial. It measures 55mm in diameter (not including the pendant). Age : 1883 Serial #2012976. Walthams Fine Wm Ellery Keywind Pocket Watch, 1880′s. In good running condition! Movement is marked Wm Ellery, Waltham Mass. This dates it to 1883. Its a Keywind, Keyset model 1877 watch with 11 jewels. The Fahys Oresilver case is in good condition with some wear. Circle diameter at 2 1/8. To set watch, must pop open front bezel at 1pm and turn hand centerpost with key. Watch includes key as seen in pic. Watch is keeping good time for its age. Great watch to carry or for collection! For your consideration is an 8S, 7J William Ellery, Model 1873 Waltham Pocket Watch. Estimated production year is March, 1877. Watch is key set and key wind. Watch is in working condition. The Dial has little to no issues as seen in the photos. Overall the Dial faces up very well. The Hands are nicely blued. The crystal is about as nice as they come. The Movement is a nice gilt. Serial number is 950362. The Hunter Case is 14K Gold and weighs a total of 60 grams. The Case appears to be original to the movement. All Three Covers open to 90 degrees. Case has little to no wear. This is an extremely nice old Civil War Era Wm. Ellery 18 size 4 hinged coin silver hunting case. The gilt movement is marked Wm. Ellery Boston, Mass with serial number 212831 ca. The case is marked Warranted Coin Silver with fancy tooling inside the front cover. The case has gold hinges and shows only minimal wear while the engraving is still very crisp. The movement shows normal patina with no signs of abuse. I don’t know how many jewels, but there are 4 large “window pane” jewels visible on the top plate. The watch is running and setting fine but I don’t know when it was last serviced, so no guarantee to accuracy or extended run time. The balance has a great motion with a slight “wiggle”, but the pivots are fine. I would recommend a good cleaning and truing the balance, if you want better accuracy.
