Stunning 16 Size Waltham Model 1908 in a crisp 14K Solid Gold Case circa 1918 #25 The double sunk porcelain dial overall looks great, showing just one faint hairlines between 11 and 12, and one extremely small chip around the hand hole. Slim spade style blued steel hands look very good, with a small amount of oxidation on the minute and seconds hands. Acrylic crystal looks good, with one or two small glue spots. The magnificent case shows subtle wear, maintaining all of the detail in the engine turning, and coin edge. Cover pops open quickly, just beyond 90° for the front cover and 90° for the back cover. Front cover has been personalized with the initials JCB. Stem wound and stem set. This watch is running and keeping great time. Gilt pair case watch measuring 51.5 mm in diameter by George Jepson of Melbourne. This is an interesting watch with nice bright gilt plates and fine quality engraved/pierced plates. Not much information that I have found on Mr. George Jepson only that he was in prison in 1811 in Nottingham. The 1811 prison record listed him as a watch/clock maker living in Nottingham originally from Melbourne. This watch was no doubt made before his move to Nottingham so I would guess 1790- early1800. The gilt brass pair cases with little remaining gilt so I polished and it looks great. The verge movement recently serviced and keeping reasonable time for a verge. The Arabic numeral porcelain dial is in excellent condition and became very popular during the end of the 18th century. The gold hands are old and watch has a clean bulls eye crystal. The spring catch activated with the button on the case back is missing the very end piece(latch). The bow is old correct style replacement but in silver not brass. Inside case back has watch paper by “Bunston” of Chard. Bunston was a mid 19th century watchmaker.
