If you like them big, this is for you. Its a 11 jewel Elgin movement, 18SZ Runs good. It was just serviced, cleaned and oiled. The #s on the movement are, 4800888, made in 1893. This is a big watch, it measures from side to side 61.3 mm. The dial is clean with no hairline , you can see in the pictures. Winds and sets smooth. The case looks good, has a few small dents and dings , which is normal for its age. The glass is nice, looks new. Its a stem set and stem wind. 14k Multi Color Gold Horse Waltham 16 size M1899 Gr 620 Hunter Case Pocket Watch. This scarce equestrian design pocket watch with exquisite horse head is in very good condition and running strong! There are only light signs of wear overall including minor scratches. The horses head is absolutely spectacular with great detail and surrounded by tall green gold leaves with rose gold buds. The front cover with rose gold vacant cartouche shield bordered by a wonderful multi color gold garland. The only other examples I could find had more whimsical horse figures and not as realistically detailed as this example. The dial has some faint hairlines. Total weight is 97.5 grams. They were the first to gain independence from European watch providers in the New World. But more than that, they sought to provide a more accurate watch at a affordable price to the American Citizen. After beginning activity in Boston by the Boston Watch Co. 1853 1859, In January 1859, the Waltham Improvement Co. And the Appleton, Tracy & Co. Merged to form the American Watch Company. In 1860, as Lincoln was elected president and the country was in Civil War, the American Watch Co. Was faced with serious problems. The next year, business came to a standstill. There seemed to be little hope of finding a market for watches, and bankruptcy again seemed close at hand. At this point it was decided to cut expenditures to the lowest possible figure and keep the factory in operation. American horology owes much to members of the Waltham Watch group such as Bacon, Church, Dennison, Fogg, Howard, Marsh, Webster, and Woerd, who contributed much to its development and success. In early 1861, the name J. Watson appeared on model 1857 first run: nos. 23,601 to 24,300 total production 1200. The next model 1857 was the R. Robbins of which 2800 were made. The William Ellery marked: Em Ellery, (model 1857) was then introduced with the first serial number of 46,201. It was key wind and key set and has 7 to 15 jewels. A size 10 womens watch was made in July of 1861 with the first serial numbers of 44,201. It was marked Appleton, Tracy & Co gold balance, key wind and key set, ¾ plate, 13 to 15 jewels. Some were marked P. Bartlett and a 15 jewel was marked Appleton, Tracy & Co. A special model, 10 size, serial numbers of 45,801 to 46,200, is extremely rare. By 1857, 35,000,000 watches were produced, and the factories closed forever. The example presented in this listing is extremely rare. This is the original 18k Gold Case! This is a Hillside Chrono Model 1884, a 14-size, 13-Jewel Hand-Winding Mechanical Movement, Circa 1887, Serial #3159566. This has been fully serviced (clean/oil/adjust), cleaned inside and out as well as a new mainspring! It winds and sets easily, runs well, chronograph performs as it should (start-stop-reset). It is housed in a very nice Crescent yellow-gold-filled hunting case, serial #58614, which measures 52.3-mm in diameter, with a pretty dog on the back cover. Case does have wear and scratches, but excellent luster and design, little to no brassing, covers/hinges work nicely, crystal is glass and in very good condition, dial and hands look very good! TRIPLE CASED TURKISH MARKET VERGE BY EDWARD PRIOR. An mid 19th Century English verge made for the Turkish market in silver and tortoiseshell triple cases. Fire gilt verge movement, small Egyptian pillars with pierced galleries above. Fusee and chain, pierced and engraved cock. Plain steel balance, silver regulator disc with Turkish markings. Signed white enamel dial, Turkish numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Matching silver pair cases, the bezel of the outer decoratively engraved. Silver pendant and bow, makers mark “WCS” in a rectangle. Third protective case covered in tortoiseshell and decorated with silver pique pins, engraved silver bezels.
