TRIPLE CASED TURKISH MARKET VERGE BY EDWARD PRIOR. An mid 19th Century English verge made for the Turkish market in silver and tortoiseshell triple cases. Fire gilt verge movement, small Egyptian pillars with pierced galleries above. Fusee and chain, pierced and engraved cock. Plain steel balance, silver regulator disc with Turkish markings. Signed white enamel dial, Turkish numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Matching silver pair cases, the bezel of the outer decoratively engraved. Silver pendant and bow, makers mark “WCS” in a rectangle. Third protective case covered in tortoiseshell and decorated with silver pique pins, engraved silver bezels. An unusually late example of a Turkish market verge in excellent overall condition. Signed : Edw Prior London.
