I have been collecting American Pocket watches for a very long time and THIS ONE is probably the FINEST EXAMPLE OF THE BELOVED 992 ELINVAR SIGNED HAMILTON THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN! I do not make this statement lightly, it looks to me that this one was put away very early in its life to rest comfortably in its little hiding place for almost 80 years! There appears to be only 1 set of watchmaker service marks inside the rear cover. “Pristine” is not overstating the originality of this masterpiece. When you consider the phrase “Railroad Grade Watch” this is the image that pops into your mind! This stunner carries the highly desirable original “BLIND MAN MONTGOMERY DIAL” which was fitted to only a small percentage of the production. This dial is in factory perfect condition with no hairlines or chips and the hands are the original DEEP BLUE Bold Spade. It lives in its original signed WADSWORTH MODEL 2 “BAR OVER CROWN” absolutely mint condition case # H168729. You do not come across a specimen like this very often. A GOOD ANTIQUE 18CT GOLD ENGLISH HUNTER CASE POCKET WATCH, ROTHERHAMS LONDON. Antique, 18CT Gold English Hunter Cased Pocket Watch by Rotherhams of London and dating from c1902. The English, plain, 18 carat gold case is hallmarked with the maker’s mark “JR” for Rotherham & Sons (John Rotherham), the “crown and “18″ for 18 carat gold, the anchor Birmingham town mark and date letter “c for 1902/03. The inner cuvette similarly marked. The English Lever movement is signed by the maker “Rotherhams, London” and serial number 244430. The watch is stem wound and pin set. The white enamel dial is in good overall condition, however does have some faint hairlines. It has the hours in roman numerals and is signed by the maker. The watch measures 51mm in diameter (across the case). The weight is 112.1g. The inner cuvette (dust cover) bears an interesting presentation inscription, the watch presented to a Civil Engineer. Presented to R W Newman Esq. E by Paarl Inhabitants to commemorate his erection of Huguenot Bridge, August 1st 1905. This very ornate case has an outer diameter of 54 mm not including the hinge and an inner diameter of 38 mm. And a depth of approximately 15 mm.
