1888 ELGIN 14K GOLD POCKET WATCH Hunter Case Movmt 6S, Runs Good-Ornate Engraving. This Elgin Pocket Watch has a Solid 14K Yellow Gold Hunter/Hunting Case that measures a little over 1 1/2 inches across, NOT counting the crown and loop. It is also 1/2 inch thick. The Case has hand engravings almost covering it. There is NO wear in the 14K Yellow Gold Case. It is Impressive and you can see the case in my pictures. Looking at my Last Picture, you will see the inside of the back case cover. It has a hallmark Horse’s Head with “14K”. To the right is an oval with a large “U” with a “K” inside the “U” and a “K” is on the far right. Under the 14K stamping is the Case Serial Number 31585. This Number is also stamped on the inside lid facing the movement, front case lid facing the dial. This Number is also stamped into the middle part of the case that holds the lids. Information about the MOVEMENT: Model 1, 6 Size with a 3/4 Plate and 13 Jewels. I took out the balance to be sure. The Serial Number for the Movement is “2,799,858″. I checked and it was made in 1888. Looking at my second to last picture you will see the 1888 date hand engraved with a note. You can also see it on the inside case lid in my last picture. It is the lid laying flat to the right. This Movement is called Lever Set. To set the hands you have to find the lever. Look at my Second Picture. It shows the Dial and Hands. Look at the 5 – it has the Roman Numeral “V”. You will find the lever one notch above in the yellow bezel. Put a fingernail between the yellow bezel and pull the lever away until it stops. Turn the crown like you are winding up the Watch and the hands will move. When you have the correct time, push the lever in and the Pocket Watch will wind. Check out my other items. The movement number is C151838, which puts it at 1946 production, 16S, 21jewels model 5. The movement has been. Cleaned oiled and serviced. Everything was found to be original and is XF, good working order. The movement runs strong, sets great and keeps good time. The case is a N Mint, 10 karat yellow gold filled Hamilton, which is in very near mint condition, if it weren’t for one very small dimple on the back (see pics) it would be in mint! The bow is tight! And both covers screw on and off smooth and tight!! And the crystal is gemmy. The dial is a. (see pics) and the hands are a Canadian style (2 time zone)and are in. Mint jet black and red condition! We only sell 100% AUTHENTIC items. Antoine Lepine was a true great master of watchmaking in the 18th century and one of the founder of mechanical watchmaking. He revolutionized mechanical watch movement by getting rid of the fusee and still was able to design an accurate running movement. This is an authentic Lepine pocket watch made in the 1750s, in 22K (tested) gold case with enamel panel in the back and diamond adorned bezels in the front & back. Lepine was appointed’Royal Watchmaker’ by French royal court in 1766 and began signing his works since then, so this pocket watch lacks such designation was made before that year. All of the characteristics including dial, case and movement are all consistent with authentic Lepine work from that age. It’s simply incredible to find such an old timepiece made by or under the supervision of a true lengendary watchmaker. Condition-wise the watch is NOT RUNNING due to lack of mainspring power. We do not know if the mainspring is broken or loose but there is no power when wound. The fusee assembly including the chain is full intact and the balance swings freely. The wheel train is also working fine. Cosmetically this watch is showing its antique age, it has many cracks on the original dial, missing hands, and the lip of the case has detached from the back causing a rip in the case. It has previously been repaired (soldered) but has now has come apart again. The enamel panel on the caseback has worn where most of the forehead region of the ladies bust has worn down. There are also a few missing diamonds on the front and back bezels. There is no crystal present. Return can be made if the item received significantly deviate from the lot description and must be made within 3 days after receiving item.
