Here’s Illinois’ famed First Model in WGF, with the smooth back framed by fancy interlinked engraving patterns, a thick neck, wide, wind-able crown, and distinctively designed layer-cake bow! This much sought after case is in fully serviceable condition. I have restored and detailed this case right down to the threads so you get the best looking and working case possible! The back and bezel thread up easily, screw on and off smoothly, and both seat tight. The matching original crown’s fluting is practically like-new for a tight, sure grip, and it turns freely but, by design, does not extract, so only a lever-set e. Bunn Special movement will work inside. The bow is also its correct original layer-cake design, shows zero brass or damage, and swings loose. The crystal is a thick beveled mineral glass model and super clear with some small chips at the edges. This fine case fits all standard-featured lever-set-ONLY movements. The case does show exceptionally minimal wear, including light, very faint signs of any carrying wear beyond superficial scratching, zero marrings or doodlings, zero brass anywhere on the scene whatsoever, and certifiably no dents, dings, dimples or depressions. We only sell 100% AUTHENTIC items. Antoine Lepine was a true great master of watchmaking in the 18th century and one of the founder of mechanical watchmaking. He revolutionized mechanical watch movement by getting rid of the fusee and still was able to design an accurate running movement. This is an authentic Lepine pocket watch made in the 1750s, in 22K (tested) gold case with enamel panel in the back and diamond adorned bezels in the front & back. Lepine was appointed’Royal Watchmaker’ by French royal court in 1766 and began signing his works since then, so this pocket watch lacks such designation was made before that year. All of the characteristics including dial, case and movement are all consistent with authentic Lepine work from that age. It’s simply incredible to find such an old timepiece made by or under the supervision of a true lengendary watchmaker. Condition-wise the watch is NOT RUNNING due to lack of mainspring power. We do not know if the mainspring is broken or loose but there is no power when wound. The fusee assembly including the chain is full intact and the balance swings freely. The wheel train is also working fine. Cosmetically this watch is showing its antique age, it has many cracks on the original dial, missing hands, and the lip of the case has detached from the back causing a rip in the case. It has previously been repaired (soldered) but has now has come apart again. The enamel panel on the caseback has worn where most of the forehead region of the ladies bust has worn down. There are also a few missing diamonds on the front and back bezels. There is no crystal present.
