Antique 1758 Georgian 18th Century Verge Fusee Pair Cased Cased Pocket Watch. This pocket watch is not actually verge but a leaver watch. It was made in 1758 by Thomas Ore of Wolverhampton who was working until 1779. The watch has square pillars and a lovely engraved movement. The cases are original to the best of my knowledge they fit so well I dont see how they could be anything else. The inner case is made of silver guilt and is hallmarked for London 1758. There are some condition issues as can be seen in the photos but its still a nice looking watch. The watch movement is for spears or repair. The balance wheel appears to be later and is not swinging. Case-Pair Case Sterling Silver. Case Dimensions-Outer Case Diameter is 60mm, Inside Case Diameter is 53.5mm. Movement-Key Wind Verge Fusee. Condition-Not Running the Balance Wheel has a wobble, it appears that the balance staff has either worn down or is bent / broken. There is a lot of smaller sized dents on the case. Silver pocket watch, pair cases, verge – Henry Perry, London, c1700. Silver pair cases, 54mm. A fine, early London verge. MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the engraved and pierced winged balance cock with wide D shaped foot. Four crested Egyptian pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws. Running well, and in good condition throughout except for one of the pillars which is missing the top section. Fortunately this damage does not effect the running of the watch. Signed HEN PERRY, St. ANNs, SOHO, LONDON and numbered (319). DIAL : Silver champleve dial, in good condition. Signed PERRY, LONDON on the central disc. There is just one small hole on the left hand edge of this central disc. Good early 18th century steel beetle and poker hands. INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks, but makers mark CW and movement serial number (319). In very good condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crystal is fine. OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with matching marks to the inner. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. There is an old (and small) repair to the centre of the back which obscures the last digit of the serial number. Henry Parry is listed in Soho, London from 1691, and in the Clockmakers Company until 1721. The case maker is either Cuthbert Weaver or Clay Whitton. A very interesting and most important fine Shagreen outer case with a silver watch. BY JOHN RICHARDS A LISTED MAKER. PLEASE DO TAKE TIME TO READ THE FULL LISTING AND DO ENLARGE THE PHOTOGRAPHS TO GET A BETTER LOOK. The size of the outer shagreen case is 51 m. The case is in good condition with a good colour. Most of the gold pins are in place, small pieces as shown missing round front bezel. Shagreen is a form of sharkskin it was used to cover expensive watches. The size of the case with the watch size is 41 m. Case with the watch is Silver hallmarked London for 1771. DIAL white enamel is nice condition. The glass is very high nose mineral and clean and clear. The fire gilt movement look just like the day it left the work shop. The watch runs Time keeping Aprox + or – 2/3 minuets per hour, mask engraved and scroll pierced engraved broad balance cock, square pillars. Engraved on the back plate with the makers name. The watch will come with a key. Just great to have such an amazing and interesting watch that is as good as this one, and it just has every thing one could want on a fine verge watch, very hard to find a watch in this condition with all that it has going for it. This watch is so very well priced, and well presented. An absolute must for any serious collector or would make a wonderful present. Full Hunter Silver Cased Verge Pocket Watch (Over 55mm) For Restoration (K40). Please see photographs for condition and size. The pocket watch needs restoration – the movement has a good chain and does wind, but the balance is stiff and doesn’t move freely. The balance has a good staff, flag present and hairspring. Inner bezel and crystal are missing. The case is in very good condition and would clean up very nicely. I have not touched, restored or cleaned it in any way!
