It is a stem set movement. The signed gold filled Hamilton case has scratches and where a monogram is usually placed is very faded. The dial has some scratches and discoloration. The crystal looks good. The hands have discoloration but look good. The serial number is 1931187, dates it to circa to 1923. The case is about 1-3/4 in diameter, not including crown or bow. Very nice and seldom seen genuine US military issued pocket watch WWII that still has its original shock absorber outer case. These outer cases have all perished over the years. The rubber of this outer case has become hardened over time and I have therefore left it off of the watch. It would be easy to damage if not careful. The watch has a 17J Elgin movement that is very clean and running quite strong. The original dial is excellent and has the minute markers in red. The gilt fusee movement with verge escapement is signed and numbered 8969. With square baluster pillars. Enamel convex dial with Arabic and Roman numerals and. Steel beetle and poker hands, enclosed under a bulls eye, domed glass. Both cases with the London hallmark for 1782 and maker’s mark IR. The outer case is 50mm in diameter. In the back of the outer case are four watchmakers repair labels the earliest one dated 1830 from Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. It is marked for a Mr A Smith, North Docks August 2 1830.
