1925 Hamilton RailRoad Pocket Philadelphia Watch Case Co 992 21 Jewel Double Roller 16S This listing is for a fine old. Hamilton Railroad Pocket Watch. At the outer edge of the dial. Has leather strap with a very early miniature oil drilling head. Attachment on the end. (possibly owned by someone in big oil or some affiliation). Case shows wear, but is overall nice. The watch appears to be in good working order and complete (although I do not know when it was last serviced and as such should probably be serviced now to be on the safe side), is clearly marked on the inside on the movement as adjusted to 5 positions with 21 Jewels and Double Roller and a serial number of 2325226 which dates this watch to 1925. This is an extremely nice Hamilton 950B 23 jewel with the very popular model A case and factory box. If you are looking for a choice 950B for your collection, this is it. The movement is flawless, no screws look like they have hardly been touched. There is only one repair date in the back cover. The case is a Hamilton 10K gold filled model A case with some light scratches on the back. Yes the bow is stiff. The traditional 950 dial and baton hands are likewise in excellent condition. 21 jewels Railroad Chronometer 16 size stem wind & lever set pocket watch in fine original looking and running condition. The movement was professionally serviced recently, runs strong and keeps accurate time. Serial number on the Series 11 high grade movement is 1260089 which dates it to circa 1915; has 21 ruby jewels, adjusted to temperature & 5 positions, has a double roller, safety pinion and a micrometric regulator. The set lever is near the 1:00 position; pull the lever up to set the time with the crown. The original porcelain enameled dial with bold numbers appears flawless. The deep blued steel hands are in fine condition. The original Howard yellow gold filled swing-out case is in extra fine condition with very light pocket wear and is original to the movement, has no brassing, monograms or engravings. (To view the movement, the crown must be pulled in the up position before swinging out the movement). The watch measures approximately 2-1/16 inches in diameter (not including the crown & bow) x 5/8 inch thick including the new old stock G-S acrylic crystal. The original bow and crown are in fine condition with light wear from use. Included with your watch is a heavy antique gold plated brass chain with a gold plated pocket clasp, measures approximately 13-1/4 inches long overall. I machined brass pins and then drilled and taped threads to accept the screws and tap. Works great perfect fit looking forward for the next course Doug. Comment from e bayer who made one , I made one of these per your info. It worked fine on a 16 size pocket watch back cover. However it didn’t work as well on the case itself.. One problem is that sometimes the 4-40 screws bottom before the tap. I suggest replacing them with unthreaded plastic posts. Don’t know if that will help but I will try that next. When using on the case body threads The tap and the 4-40 screws don’t fit between the threads and the stem holder. I plan to grind off one of the three legs of the tap so it will fit between the case body threads and either replace the 4-40 screws with unthreaded posts or grind one side of the screws so they will pass between the case threads and the stem. Another thing is the quality of the case opener. There is a lot of slop in the bit holders. The 4-40 tap should be in the bit holder closest to the handle. That one has the least slop especially in the in/out direction. Also the 2 plates of the case opener are held apart by 4 spacers. If you shorten the spacers for a tighter fit, that will reduce the slop. If the tap leans away from the threads that will cause it to remove more material from the top threads and less from the threads near the bottom. This could be why you couldn’t screw the case back all the way down. Keeping the tap more vertical will help that. Also in the past when I had a case back or bezel that was tight or felt rough I put a bit of Wenol or polishing paste on the case threads and then put the case back or bezel back on. Then as I watched TV I would screw them together and twist them back and for through the range of the fit until it felt smooth. This method removes material where there is interference.
