18 size 21 jewel hunting case lever-set Grade 943 pocketwatch. Rare fully marked example of this beautifully finished high grade railroad watch, movement is marked with “943″, “Adjusted 5 Positions”, and “Double Roller” on the barrel bridge. Watch is fronted by a double-sunk enamel Montgomery numeral dial with script signature and is housed in a beautifully engraved gold-filled Crescent Watch Case Co. Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Running and a beautiful movement with excellent bright color and luster. Regulator is shifted toward one side and I think likely this movement hasn’t seen a cleaning and oiling in some time. Montgomery dial is very nice with just a faint hairline at the 11 O’clock area and a small scratch near the outer edge outside the 16 to 17 minute numerals. Case is very attractive with an excellent in hand look and feel and with all engraving in sharp condition, but front lid has a file mark at its upper right and cuvette has a file mark at its left side presumably from someone testing for gold content. Front lid of case needs a small nudge of help in opening through the beginning of its motion before the liftspring takes it the rest of the way under its own power. It is in Excellent running. The Pendent Set movement sets and winds properly as well as keeps excellent time. The Single Sunk Dial is in excellent condition. It has Black Roman Numerals with outer black minute markings. It is marked American Watch Co. Waltham beneath the 12 position with Blue Steel Spade Hands which are excellent as well as the subsidiary hand. The Solid Yellow Gold Case is in Fine Condition. This is serial number C7019. It has a Gold center wheel. This is a seldom seen U. Army marked Hamilton 992 B. These are usually only found in the Hamilton serial numbers under C10000. After that they are marked U. The watch has been running for over a month and keeps good time. The Plates are clean and I don’t see any scratches or screwdriver marks. The original Hamilton dial #024 is a Single Sunk enamel Montgomery. I looked it over with a loupe and did find a small hairline at the 1 minute marker on the edge. The case is the correct Keystone Base Metal Military model. The serial numbers on the center ring and back cover don’t match. Very few of these Military watches have matching case numbers because of the way they were cleaned in groups and no thought was given to matching up the case serial numbers in the Military. 16 size 23 jewel open face lever-set Bunn Special Grade 163 pocketwatch. Excellent example of this top grade railroad watch fronted by its correct double-sunk enamel dial marked “Illinois, Bunn Special, 23 Jewel 60 Hour” and housed in a yellow gold-filled Model 108 Bunn Special case. Movement serial number is 5390960. Running and a beautiful movement with excellent color and luster. Dial is beautiful with just a very faint hairline in the small space of the inner chapter between the center hole and the top of the seconds-bit, this hairline crosses the number “6″ in the “60 Hour” marking. Case is very nice with an excellent in hand look and feel, but removing the bezel reveals an additional lever-set slot filed at the 11 O’clock area. Here is the crown jewel of my collection, it is the HAMILTON 23 jewel 950-E in a case marked HAMILTON RAILROAD MODEL. The 10k Gold-Filled lettering still shows on the bottom of the case frame, so this could not have been carried much if any. It is strange to see the five service marks inside the case back when this case is in such pristine condition. This case is the reason I bought the watch. The dial is free of any chips or hairlines, and the baton hands also look new. The movement has no rust residue, and it runs great. Yes, it also keeps time. The serial # 2,612,530 dates this to 1936.
