Georges Favre-Jacot (Early Zenith) Pocket Watch – Running, May Run Late – Decorative Hunter Case – Antique 19th/early 20th Century. A beautiful historical piece from the earliest era of Zenith watchmaking. Running Condition – Needs Servicing. The movement winds and runs after winding. It may occasionally stop, but starts running again after gentle shaking or picking up the watch. There are no visible defects. The watch would likely benefit from a proper cleaning and servicing to ensure stable performance. ? Decorative Repoussé Hunter Case Features a detailed raised hunting scene on the back. The case is non-silver (base metal), but very attractive and collectible due to its artwork. ? Original Enamel Dial (Damaged) The dial is enamel with several cracks and a chipped area at 1 o’clock (see photos). Hands are original blued steel. ? Early Pre-Zenith History Marked “Georges Favre-Jacot”, the founder of Zenith. These early signed pieces represent the origins of the brand. Working movement (runs but sometimes late). The watch is wound too tight. The case measures 54.7mm wide. The back case cover has a Stag engraved on it (see picture 2). The case shows wear and has some tarnish. The dial is marked Hampden Watch Co. There is a crack between the 5 and 6 o’clock positions (see picture 5). The inside of the front and back covers are marked Warranted 14k E. Co which makes this case a gold filled case. The inside of the movement cover is marked with a flag with a star in the center of it. The movement is marked Dueber Grand, Canton, Ohio, 17 Jewels. Signed movement Gallet & Co. Dirty movement, needs a service or restoration. 100% original patina, unpolished silver case (0.935 silver). Dial is 47.3 mm, it has hairlines & chips, signed “Gallet & Co”. Missing crystal (approx 46.7mm) but the hinged bezel is present. Movement dustcover is present. Offered is a scarce Illinois 16 size 21 jewel hunter model pocket watch. The movement is currently running with good motion and keeping time within a few minutes a day. It may require a service to keep perfect time. The gold filled case is in great shape with no brassing. Bow is tight and stands straight out. Glass crystal is in good shape. The dial is in great shape with some faint lines and a small chip by the seconds area. The hands are in great shape. Overall a very nice example that would be at home in anyone’s collection.
