A beautiful heavy Sterling Silver pair case verge fusee Pocket watch. Made by the watchmaker Franchis Marshall of Wath. The movement with winds smoothly and runs with a great motion. In all positions, keeps very good time, the movement is signed. Franchis Marshall Wath, and the number 3000. The movement is recently fully serviced. The enameled dial is in a nice condition, has only a very. Faint hairline on the edge between 4 and 5 hour position. The crystal bulls-eye glass is near mint, nos. The thick sterling watch cases are near mint, identical hallmarked for. Birmingham, year letter W, what stands for the year 1843. No dings or dents, near mint. Across 55mm, including bow 75mm. Thick 27mm, weight 137 grams. The watchmaker Franchis Marshall of Wath, working 1838. Is well listed in G. Ballie and Brian Loomes. “Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World”. Antiques and Jewelry By The Sea. The screw-on bezel and swing-out mechanism work perfectly and close tightly. Light wear throughout the case, with a dent and small ding on the rear. The crown is nice and tight, and the pull-out unlock for the swing-out mechanism is fully functional. The crystal has several chips along the edge, but they are not sharp and do not affect visibility at all. The double-sunk gothic dial has 2 chips along the very edge, which are completely concealed while the bezel is installed. The case engraving along the dial is still quite sharp, and the watch does not contain a monogram. A particularly interesting detail about this pocket watch is the 24 ruby jewels movement, which winds and runs well, and appears very clean overall. The case interior reveals a large amount of service dates, indicating the previous owner regularly serviced this watch throughout the years. Please note: This is an estate item and we have NO service history although the watch is running we have not timed it for accuracy – it has been stored for many years.
