14k Gold Skeleton Pocket Watch – Pin Set. Unusual 14k cased skeletonized pocket watch with pin set movement. The movement isn’t marked. Only two marks are just under the crown on front and back. Front shows “K 14″ and back has what looks like a French gold mark but it is worn and hard to read. Watch case measures 44mm across. The crown may have been replaced at some point as it is a little bit more yellow and the case is more towards rose. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. The lever-set movement is marked: Hamilton Watch Co. 992B 21 Jewels Adj. And 6 Positions C459764. As of listing it, the watch is running, and smooth to wind/set. We do not know the service history and recommend it be serviced. The dial is marked Hamilton Railway Special. The dial is in good condition, other than a small ding on the edge between 4 and 5 o’clock. The original glass crystal has some light scratches, but is in great overall condition – see photos. 18 size 21 jewel hunting case lever-set Paillard Non-Magnetic Watch Co.. An excellent example of this high grade private label, the Illinois Paillard Non-Magnetic is rare in this 21 jewel 18 size version. Movement is very nicely finished with gold jewel settings, bright spotted pattern nickel damaskeen, Chalmer’s patent regulator, and distinctive gold colored signature inlay to the barrel bridge which Paillard reserved for their high grade production. Watch is fronted by its correct double-sunk enamel dial with fancy Roman hour numerals, and watch is housed in a good looking plain finish gold-filled Wadsworth “Pilot” model case. Movement serial number is 1256438. Running but balance motion is somewhat sluggish and watch lost between 2 and 3 minutes over 24 hours and I think likely hasn’t seen a servicing in many years. Very nice looking movement overall with just a few typical mild surface marks and spots, and gold inlay to barrel bridge is excellent with strong gold color though with some bits of black color loss to its lettering. Regulator is a replacement of different style with its tip falling a bit short of reaching its resting slot in the Chalmer’s patent adjustment assembly. Dial is beautiful with just a very faint outer chapter hairline at the 1 minute position. Case is in nice overall condition with a strong in hand look showing little wear but case does have a few flaws to note which are a sharp ding to its band at the 10:30 area, some scratches and roughness surrounding the rear opening lip, and rear lid leaves a small sliver of gap to case band around its lower right when closed. This is a vintage 16 size display back pocket watch case. The square is broken off the stem, so it will need a new stem. This is for a lever set movement. It has the slot for the lever and the stem does not pull out for pendant setting. It has a glass crystal on one side (with one edge chip at 4:30 in the pic) and an acrylic crystal on the other side. The bezels are tight and you will need a case knife to remove the front one to set the watch. Other than the stem, the case is in nice condition and the bow is tight. There is no brassing on the case. What might look like brassing in the pic’s are just reflections. The case diameter is 50.4mm not including the pendant & bow. Please see pictures for description. Beautiful verge pocket watch by James Markwick – eminent British watchmakers. The craftsmanship is excellent as you can expect from reputable watchmaker. The dial bears Lion and Unicorn symbolics – probably as sign of Supplier to the King status. He became member of Clockmakers company in 1692, Master of Clockmaker’s company in 1720, died in 1730. Watches in British Museum. Later partner with Robert Markham, who succeeded him using the trading name of Markwick Markham, which became famous for watches destined for the Turkish market. Quite unusually for British pair case watches, both cases bears serial number 3053 and outer is hallmarked by RB. The casemaker Richard Blundell registered this hallmark in 1682. Champleve silver dial is in good condition. Case is in good condition with some period wear. Diameter of outer case is 57mm, thickness is 33mm, weight is 147 gramms.
