Beautiful verge fusee watch from French Regency Epoch, circa 1720s-1730s. Very rare porcelain (over brass base) case, really hard to find. It’s decorated with painting of allegory of love on the back side – cherub in carriage driven by doves. The inner side of back cover and front cover are decorated with painted flowers. Movement is signed by Baillon a Paris. Baillon – is well known French watchmaking dynasty, known from mid-XVII. Probably, production of Etienne Baillon, installed in Paris from 1704 (died 1748). Beautiful porcelain dial with bold numbers, beetle and pocker hands – it looks a little “British”. Movement is very nice, with big balance bridges of typical French Regency style. This early movement features barrel with worm, square baluster pillars and almost none escapement regulations. After Julien Le Roy inventions of mid XVIII, these was features are impossible to find in French movements. The movement is in good working condition – works in every position. The porcelain of case has cracks and couple of minor reparation to the border. The dial has hairlines and reparation near winding hole. Diameter of outer case is 50mm, inner is 55mm. We only sell 100% AUTHENTIC items. We are very pleased to offer this spectacular Waltham 18K Solid Gold Enamel Pocket Watch with Scallops shaped case. This is such a rare and awesome example of American made enameling art at its best. Both the front and back covers are enameled with radiating panels of alternating black and navy-colored enamel scenes. Besides the fact that multiple panels of enameling is extremely rare, navy-colored enamel on American made cases is superbly rare as well. Both covers are also adorned with a complete scene of sea-related subjects such as on the front side it has a lighthouse and sailboat and on the back side it has a boat anchor drawn on the ivory background. Both scenes of enameling are expertly painted with extremely fine details. Besides the full panels, all around the case there is also filler enamel done in black. The case is just a marvel with scalloped edges. Inside the watch it houses a high grade Amn grade model 1873 movement. Overall it’s just a super rare watch with top notch features all around. Condition-wise this watch runs great but it has not been serviced so we cannot guarantee timekeeping accuracy. Cosmetically the dial is in mint condition, the enameling is also in mint condition that even the filler sections are all complete. This is a super example of the finest American enameling and case-making, along with the high grade movement it’s just a wonderful watch to own.
