This watch is a very large mens 18 size housed in a silver (nickel) open face display case. This watch is a true rarity as it is a private label piece marked The Railroader 17 Jewel Bunn. This piece is interesting as it should be the last of a run of 16 Jewel Bunns but is marked 17 Jewels. This makes this piece one of the very first 17 Jewel Bunns made as they were moving from 15 and 16 jewel to Bunns to 17 jewel Bunns at this point. Very few of these The Railroader pieces were made. One more element that makes this even more collectible is that it is two tone! What a watch, hard to find another Bunn this rare or should I say scarce. An awesome Bunn to add to your collection. The movement is in great condition as you can see. The Bunn grade is very sought after and was one of the highest grades of watches on offer from the Illinois Watch Company at the time. The watch is privately labelled to S. The watch has Ruby jewels in screwed down solid gold jewel settings and has solid gold balance screws. It also has gold inlaid engraving which is all still intact and in fantastic condition; and check out that incredibly detailed two tone damaskeening WOW! This is a railroad grade watch and is adjusted to temperature, positions and isochronism. The movements serial number is 1178400 making it 127 years old. The double sunk dial on this watch is in good presentable condition and is the correct dial for this movement. It has the correctly private labelled dial for S. This dial does have a few small and light hairlines and one chip but still is presentable and great that it is original. The case is a very nice and heavy nickel open face display case. The lids snap on well with no gaps at all as you can see in the photos. The watch is stem wound and the hands are lever set. The hands set very well and the watch currently runs well. It has 4 sub dials featuring the month, day, date and moonphase, together with seconds hand. I have tested the watch and all functions are working, each one has its own press button for setting, these are also working. These change automatically when the watch is running. The watch is running fast (about 15 minutes a day) and could certainly do with some regulation and fine tuning. Beautiful ornate ivory coloured dial with four sub dials and a total of six hands. The general condition is very good with just a very small chip on the sub seconds dial. Excellent solid silver two tone Swiss hallmarked triple hinge ornate case. This is a very attractive and well made case in excellent condition without any dents or scratching. Stamped with the silver quality 0.800 the diameter size is 50mm and 71mm if you include the bow. This model was named after the the president of the company Jacob Bunn, a friend of President Abe Lincoln, Jacob Bunn had his main office in Chicago, reorganize Railroads help them raise financing. And was fanatical about new technology about accuracy. When the Bunn Special came out in the turn of the century it was a epitome of American watch making renowned around the world. This watch is over 92 years old serial number 5067542, circa 1928, type 3, model 14 16 size, 23 ruby jewels set with gold bushings, gold center wheel, 60 hours, adjusted to six wearing positions, and temperature. Stem winding and set with the lever after turning off crystal and bezel. Many times I have just watch this run in a glass dome wondering how something so beautifully and meticulously manufactured, could be made without CNC machines or modern day computers. The Two tone Especially made Bunn case has two plates of 14kt solid gold with a brass interior, think of it as an Oreo cookie. The inner brass gives it strength and keeps the price down but has the look of solid gold.
