Here we offer a very rare Irish Verge Fusee Pocket Watch, which has a Silver Champleve Dial, signed Coote, Dublin which is in very good condition. It bears the Case Makers Mark W N on the inner and outer. The Movement is signed Thos. Coote, Dublin; is working very well, but runs very slowly, in the dial down position. It is Key Wound on the Back and and Key Set on the Dial and bears the low sn 133. Note the early grotesque Face of Chronos on the cock. H Bailie lists Thomas Coote in Dublin from 1733 to 1747. He is listed as a Quarter Brother in 1733 in Watch and Clockmakers in Ireland, by William Galland Stuart : (Edited by David Boles). The Verge Fusee Movement has Egyptian Pillars and is in very good cosmetic and working condition. It was recently Serviced by my Watchmaker and runs very slow in the dial down position over 24 hours. It will tick for a short time in the dial up position and stop. It is housed in Silver Pair Cases, stamped with the Makers Mark W N. The Outer measures 50mm in diameter and is in very good condition. The 43mm Watch Case is also in Excellent condition and is 20mm deep (25.4mm =1 inch). The 38mm Silver Champleve Dial is in very good condition. It has Roman Hour Numerals and Arabic Minutes in the outer chapter ring. It comes to you directly from a large Irish Watch Collection, which was assembled over the past 40-50 years. Here we offer an English Verge Fusee Pocket Watch, which has an Enamel Dial and comes in Silver Pair Cases, which bear no assay marks. The Movement is signed Thos. Ganthome, London; is in very good running order and keeping time to within 10 mins per day. It is Key Wound on the Back and and Key Set on the Dial. The Verge Fusee Movement has Early Style Pillars and is in very good cosmetic condition. It is signed as shown in the pics and has an early Face of Chronos design on the cock. It is housed in Silver Pair Cases; the Outer measures 54mm in diameter and is in good condition apart from the expected wear marks and light dings on the back. The 44mm Watch Case is also in very good condition, but has a few slight dings and is 27mm deep (25.4mm =1 inch). The 40mm Enamel Dial is in good condition ; has a chip at 6.30 and a very light one at 11.00. It has Roman Hour Numerals and Arabic Minutes in the outer chapter ring. This one is for an antique pair case pocket watch dating from the middle of the 18th Century. The watch is by Thomas Shilling (marked to the movement) and it is a wonderful example of a verge escapement fusee watch. The white porcelain dial has Roman numerals with outer Arabic minutes. The dial and inner case are quite small – 38mm diameter dial and 44mm inner case. The inner and outer cases are both marked hallmarked London 1758. Lifting the dial reveals the stunning verge escapement fusee movement, marked Thomas Shilling. The watch does run but it could do with a service. Cosmetically it is good for a 260 year old watch – there is however some wear as you would expect including a broken hour hand. Please see my photos for more details.
