Pocket Watch Case

Presented is a nice example of the Hamilton Railroad grade 992B in its original scarce Model 3 tu tone case, with its original single sunk dial and great running high grade movement. The lever set open face movement is a 16′s with 21 jewels, featuring nice bright nickle straight lined damaskeened plates with black lettering, Elinvar Balance with great motion, and gold jewel settings. It was cleaned just a couple of weeks ago and runs great. It is marked Hamilton Watch Co. USA 992B 21 Jewels Adj. And 6 Positions and bears the serial number C225922. Virtually no rust except for the main winding wheel and a touch on the regulator spring, and that’s it. The very scarce Model 3 case (I always thought it was a Model 2 that was offered in a tu tone) is cosmetically in very nice condition with no dents or dings and the only things I can pick at is a small amount of light wearthru on the body and a touch on the bow. The bezels screw off just fine but can be a tad tricky at times (though once you get the hang of it, with a light touch and starting it straight they work fine). It is marked on the bottom body “W 10K Gold Filled” and on the inside “Wadsworth Base Metal”. The original Boxcar single sunk enamel dial is in nice condition with no issues that I can find and is signed “Hamilton” in block. Very nice original black steel hands. 18 size 15 jewel hunting case lever-set pocketwatch. Absolutely beautiful movement with a scarce 2-tone damaskeen pattern that features a circular checkerboard pattern at the center, vertical stripes of checkerboard at the sides, and an attractive 2-tone pattern to the mainspring barrel cover. Movement is marked “Adjusted” and would have been railroad grade at its time of manufacture, and this movement is identified in Greg Frauenhoff’s Aurora Watch Co. Book as a Grade 8 with an estimated total production of 1620 made in the hunting case version. Watch is fronted by its correct double-sunk enamel dial and is housed in a Philadelphia Watch Case Co. Movement serial number is 81499. Running and a beautiful movement with a superb bright 2-tone color and luster, likely the finest example I’ve ever seen for this particular damaskeen. One casescrew is nickel colored so a mismatch to the other blued movement screws. Dial is very nice with just some faint hairlines in the outer chapter. Hour and minute hands are different styles. Case front springs open a bit past 90 degrees but with a light touch continues to open further to a good ways past 90 degrees as seen in the side view photo, front latch hangs up on the bezel at times, neck of case has a small screw hole that is currently empty, and inner surface of outer case back and the cuvette both have some scratches. Presented is a nice 21 jewel 16s Illinois Bunn Special, circa 1924, in a scarce attractive yellow gold filled correct signed case with a double sunk dial and recently serviced high grade movement. This Model 9 Bunn Special Grade features 21 jewels, gold jewel settings, gold balance screws, gold train and fancy damaskeened nickle plates and is a lever set. It has been very recently cleaned and is marked Bunn Special Illinois Watch Co. Springfield Adjusted Temp and Six Positions and bears the serial number 4532729. There are no signs of rust or corrosion, all the black filled is intact in the lettering and the balance has wonderful motion. The original double sunk boxcar dial features bold Arabic numbers and a large sub second bit at the 6 position. The dial faces up very nicely, as you can see in the pics but does have 2 light hairlines, one at the 12 and one at the bottom below the seconds bit. It is simply signed “Illinois” in and arc. Nice/very decent original wine colored steel hands. The scarce first model signed Bunn Special case (in 40 years of fooling with watches, this the the very first pattern back I’ve ever seen with this model) is a screw back and bezel yellow gold filled and features the unique to this style case bow with a bead/coin edge. Its in very nice condition with an unpersonalized crest with virtually no wearthru that I can find and the only this I do see is a slight “push” on the back that you need to reflect around to see. It is signed “Bunn Special Model 10 Karat Gold Filled Wadsworth Quality Pat’s Pend’g” and sports a new glass crystal. Nice Illinois railroad approved Bunn Special in a very scarce case. IT’S IN A MINTY CLEAN & BRIGHT DEFIANCE CHROME BASE METAL RAILROAD CASE. THE WATCH HAS A DOUBLE SUNK WHITE PORCELAIN DIAL WITH BLACK ARABIC HOUR NUMERALS & A RED OUTER MINUTE NUMERAL CHAPTER. THE CASE IS SIGNED AS DEFIANCE ON THE INSIDE BACK. THE WATCH IS TWICE SIGNED: ON THE DIAL & THE MOVEMENT. THE CASE MEASURES APPROX. 2 1.8 IN DIAMETER. I WOUND THE WATCH RIGHT OUT OF THE ESTATE. Scarce 18s Hamilton grade 943 / model 2 21 jewel pocket watch in striking and lovely gold filled hunter case with engraved floral motif. Hamilton movement serial number 163637 – 1902. Measures 54mm in diameter x 15mm thick. Weighs 144 grams with the movement. Covers snap shut tightly. Very little wear through to gold filled case, light scuffs. The movement is ticking strong. The balance staff is in good condition, the hands set well and it winds well. The second hand rotates when the balance wheel oscillates. It has not been tested for accuracy.
