The movement is clean. It is lever set. It winds and sets time properly. The crystal is ok but you can see the scratch in the last picture. The hands, dial and markers all look flawless. This is an excellent antique Elgin 18 size 21 jewel Veritas pocket watch in a Defiance base metal case out of an estate! The lever-set movement has is marked: Veritas Elgin, Ill. 9348750 Safety Barrel 21 Jewels Adjusted. The double-sunk dial is simply marked Elgin. The dial is in fair condition, there are some hairlines in the finish, and repaired chips – see photos. The original glass crystal is in fair condition, there are some light scratches. The case is in good condition, there are light scratches, and no wear-through in the finish. The train engraved on the case back looks excellent! Inside of the case back is marked: DEFIANCE 3313883. The watch will currently wind/set, and will run when wound. We do not know the service history on this watch, and recommend it be serviced to keep running and keep time. IT’S IN A MINTY CLEAN & BRIGHT DEFIANCE CHROME BASE METAL RAILROAD CASE. THE WATCH HAS A DOUBLE SUNK WHITE PORCELAIN DIAL WITH BLACK ARABIC HOUR NUMERALS & A RED OUTER MINUTE NUMERAL CHAPTER. THE CASE IS SIGNED AS DEFIANCE ON THE INSIDE BACK. THE WATCH IS TWICE SIGNED: ON THE DIAL & THE MOVEMENT. THE CASE MEASURES APPROX. 2 1.8 IN DIAMETER. I WOUND THE WATCH RIGHT OUT OF THE ESTATE. IT CAME RIGHT TO LIFE AND RAN. I LET THE WATCH RUN FOR A FEW HOURS BEFORE LISTING TO MAKE SURE IT WORKED. IT RAN SMOOTH W/O STOPPING. THE CASE IS NOT WORN LOOKING, BEAT UP, ROTTED OUT, BENT UP, DENTED UP, REPAIRED OR MODIFIED. THE DIAL IS CLEAN BRIGHT WHITE. IT’S NOT SOILED UP. I CAN SEE A TINY CHIP AT THE EDGE OF THE DIAL WHERE THE LEVER PULLS IN AND OUT – SEE PHOTOS. THE CRYSTAL IS NOT CRACKED OR FOGGED UP. THE CROWN WINDS THE MOVEMENT FINE & THE LEVER SETS THE TIME FINE. THE MOVEMENT IS BRIGHT & CLEAN INSIDE – SEE PHOTOS. THE CASE IS TRULY MINTY LOOKING. I DO THINK IT WAS EVER CARRIED ON A CHAIN OR WORN AROUND. THE CASE LOOKS LIKE IT WAS JUST STORED FOR MANY YEARS.
