1890 RARE PAIR CASED / ONLY 69000 MADE ELGIN G M WHEELER SILVER 18S POCKET WATCH. Ll be honest, its the first time I have ever seen an Elgin pair case pocket watch, even rarer with the large gold image of a horse & jockey on the back!!!! 1890, G M Wheeler, Grade 44, Model 5, Class 9, 18S, either 15J or 17J, stem set with date serial number 3506121. Research revealed that a total of only 69,000 were produced of this model during 1890 making it quite rare, even rare being pair cased. Working, ticking strongly and was tested over a 19 hour period and kept near perfect time, maybe lost 10 to 20 seconds. May need a service though as when winding, the winder pulled out of the stem. The outer Fays Senior Coin (silver). Case is 58.4mm in diameter with serial number U3076. The inner case is 50.2mm in diameter, same serial number U3076 but is not stamped silver. Dial has a few cracks, glass has wear, unsure if the horse and jockey are gold or gold plated. Local Brisbane pick-up welcomed. The 4 piece double hinged case to this beautiful watch is solid 18 carat FULLY MARKED gold with a gold metal dustcover. The case is designed OCTAGONALLY in shape and looks fabulous. It has a beautiful hand engraved pattern to the case back which is sumptuosly enameled with orange green and black enamels to form a foliate scene (see pics). There is some wear to some of the enamelling. The case back is in great condition showing just a couple of tiny light dings. The case sides have just a couple of small dings that I can see. All of the covers snap to. I have gently polished the case, and it is shining wonderfully, as only SOLID 18k GOLD can. The dust cover is in good condition and is made from GOLD COLORED METAL. THE WATCH MEASURES 3.1CMS (31MM) across. The hinges show no signs of major abuse. The 18k hallmarks are clear. This lovely collectible watch has a STUNNING original beautifully Pallionne enamel decorated dial. It is unsigned and is showing NO damage whatsoever. It has lovely RARE Roman BLUE painted numerals rather than the standard black ones on other watches of this type which are in excellent condition. The dial has a beautiful hand enameled silver design around its outside with a black’Railway’ minute track. The crystal is glass and may be the original. It is in good condition showing only light age related wear. The beautiful antique Spade style watch hands are golden steel and are in excellent condition. This is a lovely condition Swiss made crown wind and pin set cylinder movement which was typical of the movements at this time. It is unsigned but is SWISS made. It has minty steel screws. This watch has had a full service by my watchmaker of 40 years. The watch winds ok and the pin setting works as it should. The watch keeps time to approx +/- 3 mins a day. The chain ring looks to be gold plated and is in good condition. This beautiful ladys fob watch is made complete with a beautiful fully hallmarked SOLID 15 CARAT GOLD PIN BROOCH. The brooch is in excellent condition and the hallmarks are for Birmingham and the date letter is for 1910 so I can confidently assume that this is the original brooch that was bought with the watch. Please remember that vintage watches have survived for many decades by being treated well. Vintage watches are not for wearing while doing yard work, working out, or swimming. Vintage watches cannot keep time like their quartz cousins and will need altering on average between +-2 to +-5 mins per day. They are a little more destructible than modern watches. Vintage watches also require periodic service and cleaning. Every couple of years, they would like their 20,000 mile checkup, oil change, and general service. A very interesting and most important silver pair case watch. PLEASE DO TAKE TIME TO READ THE FULL LISTING AND DO ENLARGE THE PHOTOGRAPHS TO GET A BETTER LOOK. The size of the outer silver case is 51 m. And is in good condition, with a very nice watchmakers paper so nice to have and rounds this fine watch off. The nob on top of the release button is missing, age related dings. The size of the case with then watch is 43 m. Both cases are well hallmarked London 1795. All the hinges work well on the cases. Very nice black hands that look original. The glass is very high bull nose. The fire gilt movement look just like the day it left the work shop. The watch runs well C + or 2- 3 minutes per hour. With a very very fine engraved back plate with a decorated and engraved balance cock, a silver Tompion regulator. Signed on the back plate R WALKER LONDON The watch will come with a key. R WALKER IS A WELL LISTED MAKER. Just great to have such an amazing and interesting watch that is as good as this one, and it just has every thing one could want on a fine verge watch, very hard to find a watch in this condition with all that it has going for it.
