Estate Antique ladies Hunting Case Pocket Watch. Stem wind and pin set (AKA Nail set). The case has a gorgeous multi colored enamel cover. It is of a lady with a dog and a basket of flowers sitting outside. The case is set with 5 flat rose cut diamonds. High Grade swiss movement. 10 Jewels or Rubies. Back of the case is monogramed in gold with the initials JSH. It does not run, appears to be over wound. Balance Staff is OK. One side of the case is stamped 18K 205 and the other is 57205. Offered is an antique Waltham 18 size 17 jewel ornate gold filled or plated hunter case pocket watch in unrestored running condition. The pendant wind lever set movement is running strong but no guarantee for long term reliability or accuracy is offered as I dont know the service history. Side winding Elgins and Walthams are not un-common… This watch came to me from a collector who had previously fitted two other movements because he thought this movement was wrong despite the hand setting lever aligning perfectly and the small case locating peg on the edge of the movement at the Roman numeral eleven also aligning perfectly and slotting into the hole in the case.. Luckily he kept the original movement. Fully serviced with a new “Elgin” main-spring and keeping very accurate time. Not the brightest of plates but this Elgin 11 jewel “work-horse” movement is mechanically perfect. Electronically timed and tested, gains 10 seconds a day face up… Loses 2 seconds a day face down with the regulator arm being dead center on the timing index plate. Under-sprung cut bi-metal balance wheel with timing screws. Winds smoothly, open the front lid and fully pull the hand setting lever out to set the time via the winding button. A “Bay State” imperial coin silver case.. Tiny ding on the bezel near the hinge and an even smaller one on the back lid in the area of the blank cartouche. Coin edges are still very sharp. Nice floral pattern on the back lid. All closures and hinges are excellent. Clear real mineral flat bevel edged crystal. Presentation inscription on the inner dust cover lid for 1894. Lovely blued steel original hands… Fancy second hand is not original but a good tight fit and perfect in size….. A large watch at 53 m. In diameter excluding pendant and bow. Weighs in at 138 grams.
