Description: 1920s International Watch Co. 900 Coin Silver Probus High Grade Pocket Watch in fancy open face case. Movement serial number #875451. Case serial number #896471. Case features IWC mark, Swiss Bear Hallmarks and German half-moon and crown hallmark, indicating that this Swiss made watch and case was sent to Germany after production. The crown mark was given to both German made silver and silver coming into Germany, so it is unknown if this was marked in advance of export or upon import. Watch is missing regulator spring. Condition: Good condition, ticking, balance is free, movement winds well and hands set well. Hands and dial in good condition with only minor loss of color on hands and light scratching to dial, particularly on sunk second dial. Case is good as well with very minimal wear. Some denting to the bow and some minor tarnishing in cervices of decorative edge. After being set and wound, the watch ran continuously and accurately for over 18 hours despite not having regulator spring. Unless otherwise noted, watches have not been tested for accuracy and are not tested for more than a few minutes. We test the condition of each watch movement by winding it, setting the hands, and observing if it is ticking or not. In this listing we are happy to present this truly wonderful Swiss (Unmarked) Platinum High Grade Ultra Thin Pocket Watch with diamonds fully adorning the case and bow. Most likely this watch was made by Henry Capt or Haas Neveux. In the 1910s, ther were very few watch movement manufacturers that were capable of making high grade ultra thin movements and Henry Capt or Haas Neveus were two of the best. With the case and crystal intact this watch is slightly under 6cm in terms of thickness. As can be seen from the quality of the movement with extra fine winding wheels, capped escapement, large ruby jewels etc. This was a very expensive watch over 100 years ago with a diamond-encrusted platinum case. The platinum case has PUR wording which means pure, thus the case has more than 90% platinum and probably more in the 95% purity range. To put luxury over-the-top, the entire case band and bow (also hallmarked platinum) has been fully encrusted with old mine cut diamonds. Condition-wise the watch runs well but we cannot guarantee timekeeping accuracy or longevity as we don’t know its service history. Antique pocket watches like this specimen will likely need full service to run normally, it is the sole decision and responsibility of end-user to service or not. We will not accept return based on claim of functional issues. Cosmetically the watch is in great shape with no major faults or problems. Total weight is 41.3 grams.
