Heavy 18ct Gold English Freesprung Hunting Cased Pocket Watch. Very heavy 18ct gold English free-sprung 3/4 plate fusee hunting cased pocket watch. Signed white enamel dial with roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, and blue steel hands. The movement; 3/4 plate numbered with large diamond end stone. It’s unusually highly jeweled for an English watch. The movement is signed Le Cheminant Wimpole St London. This watchmaker is well known for having made very high quality timepieces including chronometers and deck watches for the Royal Navy. Please see this link for some information on the maker. The movement is a keywind free-sprung fusee. The watch is of a particularly heavy gauge and made by one of England’s finest casemakers of that period Fred Thoms F. T (Frederick Thoms, Clerkenwell). Winding through the gold inner cuvette. The case and movement are all in excellent condition with no dings or dents. The case opens freely and easily with no damage to the hinges, and as expected keeps EXCELLENT time. Weight with the movement removed 81g. A very interesting and most important MINT MINT watch with outer case made of under painted horn. A verge, fusee movement. MADE BY WILLIAM CLIFTON. Edge to edge, under painted horn was only used on very expensive watches, it has great colour, ALL of the pins are in place. With a nice watchmakers paper. The case is also in mint condition, and thehindge has never been repaired that shows how well it was looked after. Size of the case with the watch is 42 m. All the hinges and clips work well on the cases. The enamel dial is in perfect condition. Very fine original beetle and poker gold hands. The glass is very high clean and clear. Movement looks just like it had just left the work shop in 1790 gilt full plate fusee verge, pierced and engraved balance cock, nice pillars, silver Tompion regulator, signed on the back plate Wm CLIFTON LONDON. The timekeeping is great C aprox + or- 1 to 2 minuets per hour. FINE 10k GOLD LADIES HUNTING CASE POCKET WATCH BY ELGIN. FOR MARSHALL FIELD CO 1895. The serial number dates it to 1895. Superb engraved case, the cartouche bears no monogram. Delicate original gold hands. Straight from a safe deposit box. The case is superb… 10k solid yellow gold… Hinges are solid and work well with good snap. That mark is unknown to us. The watch is about 2 1/4″ tall and 1 1/2″ wide. The watch appears to run strongly. It started right up. It has been running for several hours. We assume it will need a cleaning, service, repairs etc. The weight is 53.32 grams. The case is unmarked as to purity, we had it laser tested, it is solid 10K yellow gold- not gold plated.
