Appears to have been made in the late 18th century (1700s) to early 19th Century (1800s) but was probably converted in the mid to late 1800s. The outer case measures approx. 57mm in diameter while the inner case measures approx. 51.5mm in diameter. The white enamel dial is in fair shape with noticeable wear in the photos. The inner and outer cases appear to be gilt (gold plated brass) and appear to be decent shape with more than normal wear. The outer back covering has what looks to be turtle shell which was common back in the 1600s to 1800s. The hour repeating movement is stamped JOHANES BIERET A GENT No. 116 Lovely ornate filigree balance cock. Key wind & key set. I did get the watch to run good (dial face up) for almost a day and it kept good time (within a minute) but it is apparent that it will need some cleaning (runs sluggish and stops, dial faced down, but staff is good). The movement appears to have been a VERGE FUSEE watch at one point in time but looks to have been converted to a cylinder escapement with dual mainspring barrels (one for the time and the other for the repeating mechanism) probably around the mid to late 1800s. The repeater is complete and the watch chimes on its own every hour. However, when you push down on the top button below the bow, it will manually active the chiming as well. The inner case has a mounted bell that the repeating hammer strikes on. I have not found any information on the maker nor have I seen any similar to this repeater, so it could be extremely rare if not uncommon.
