Title: Early Peoria Watch Co. 15j Hunting Case movement #8685 circa 1888 Description: The Peoria Watch Company was formed in 1885 and a factory facility was completed in 1886 to house the watch making equipment from the Fredonia Watch Company and production began in late 1886. This example is serial number 8685 and is a 15 jewel hunting case movements that has been recased some time in the past. The watch appears to have a broken balance staff and the dial has some hairlines. Due to not having a crystal the watch lost it’s hands during storage. The Jewelry Store owner was a great watchmaker and had been in business since 1959. Over the years he had several contracts with local Railroad Unions and Kept the local railroad workers in good timepieces. He had a lot of good railroad watches and this is one of them! Brand: Hamilton Watch Co. Model: NEW OLD STOCK Unworn Unused Hamilton 992B Railroad approved pocket watch. Here is some additional information I found pertaining to this movement. Adjusted # of Positions. 22.3, 38.0, 57.1. Case Composition: Hamilton Stainless Steel (railroad case model 15). Running Condition: This watch runs obviously, however the oil in it is 51 years old, so I would expect to get it serviced just in order to get that old oil out and the new oil in. Case size not including bow or crown: 50.3mm in diameter. Comes with tissue paper and blue box. I might not have it, because I expect them to sell rather quickly. The other has a slightly different dial And… NO (darn it) they are not consecutive serial numbers. The jeweler told me he ordered several when he found out Hamilton was going to no longer make them. Being a 1970 model confirms as I think that was the last year they were made or right around there. The service history of this watch is unknown to me unless I state otherwise. Therefore you should expect to service this watch if you are a responsible collector. Often times these watches have been forgotten in a jewelers desk or in a back room for 30 plus years. I like to save them from that demise and get them back into the hands of collectors. It doesn’t take very long for old gummy oil to stop a movement from running (many times just a week or so) or even worse if the oil is dried out it might not take too long for the watch to grind itself up inside so please understand I can only tell you how the watch is performing here. Perfect porcelain dial, with no chips/cracks. Original blue steel hands and glass crystal. Fine quality Swiss Made Rolex movement, 15 jewels, timed 3 positions, for all climates. The movement was just serviced(cleaned, oiled, regulated) and it keeps very good time with excellent action. This is a very nice example of a 1920′s Rolex, all original and in exceptional condition. Antique verge pair case silver pocket watch. Edward Hemmen, London, circa 1791. Working order but keeps poor time. Movement signed and numbered 15755. Gilt fusee and chain movement with verge escapement, turned pillars and pierced balance cock. White enamel convex dial and steel beetle and poker hands having Roman numeral hour markers and Arabic quarters and covered with an original bulls eye glass. The silver pair cases both hallmarked London 1791 and with the case makers mark TG. In the outer case back are some watchmakers repair papers. Outer case diameter 52mm. The watch works, it runs for a full 30 hours but runs fast, I have not tried to regulate it. It has a winding key. There are 2 small dents on the outer case. The push button for the outer case opener is missing although its spring is there and it closes properly. The bow must be a replacement, its the correct shape but its not silver. The inner case has solder on the inside where the stem has been re-attached. One side of the inner case hinge is broken on the bezels side the other side is good. All in all, for a 229 year old watch its in nice antique condition.
