Pocket Watch Case

For sale is an antique Patek Philippe pocket watch case Circa 1854. The brown leather hinged case measures 3.4″ x 3″ x 1. The inside diameter of the watch pocket is 1 & 3/8. The hinge & latch are in excellent condition. The box lining is stamped on the inside Patek, Philippe & Co, Geneva. Pleister 277 Regent St. The watch is inscribed with a date of 1854 which is how the box has been dated. The case shows some wear but still in very nice condition for the age of almost 200 years! This is a family piece and it was given as a wedding present in that year. Both the case and the watch have been evaluated by a local certified watchmaker and jeweler.

UP FOR SALE IS THIS ANTIQUE SWISS DESK POCKET WATCH WITH ENGLISH STERLING SILVER CAPPED DISPLAY CASE, THE TIMEPIECE MANUFACTURED IN GENEVA SWITZERLAND LIKELY AROUND 1904 (ASSUMPTION GIVEN THE DISPLAY CASE IS HALLMARKED TO THAT DATE). THIS IS A BIG SWISS POCKET WATCH! THIS TIMEPIECE AS A WATCH COULD BE WORN IF YOU CAN TOLERATE THE WEIGHT AND SIZE BUT IT’S INTENT IS AS A DESK POCKET WATCH. IT IS A MYSTERY TO ME WHO ACTUALLY MANUFACTURES ROBERT GENEVE WATCHES, I HAVE SPENT A FEW HOURS TRYING TO GET MORE INFORMATION FROM BOOKS AND THE WEB…. I HAVE NOT TURNED UP MUCH. THIS WATCH IS RUNNING, BUT THE BALANCE WHEEL WILL NOT START THE PROCESS OF RUNNING WITHOUT ENCOURAGEMENT, I JUST GIVE A LITTLE PUFF OF DUST OFF OR BLOW ON THE BALANCE WHEEL AND THE WATCH GOES OFF AND RUNNING UNTIL THE ENERGY FROM THE WINDING SPRING EXPIRES. IT LIKELY NEEDS A PROFESSIONAL CLEANING TO START ON IT’S OWN. THE TIME KEEPING NEEDS ADJUSTMENT AND IS NOT WHOLLY ACCURATE. THE MOVEMENT CASE IS JUST PLAIN BEAUTIFUL, HAS A NICELY CARVED DEPICTION OF A HORSE AND FOAL IN A FIELD. THE DISPLAY CASE IS MADE OF WOOD WITH A VELVET LINER AND LOOKS BLUE OR PURPLE DEPENDING ON THE LIGHTING. THE DISPLAY CASE CAP IS STERLING SILVER MADE IN BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND AND DATED 1904 BASED ON THE MARKINGS, THERE IS A J. THERE ARE AESTHETIC ISSUES WITH THE DISPLAY CASE, PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOS.
