Very fine, rare and important, open face Staybrite keyless pocket chronometer, one of a series of 300 pieces made circa 1925. Open Faced, Staybrite Lepine case , gold hinged cuvette and gold Opener on Brezel and back lid. Inside the backlid, engraved Omega Acier Staybrite, 5983641. The case is in perfekt, probaly unworn condition. Dial : Two-tone silver with arabic numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds, painted Omega name and sign in black and the words “Chronomètre” in red at 12 o’clock. Original blued steel hands. The dial and hands are very nice condition. 43.15 L (Lepine) 19´´´ Grade Very Best, rhodium-plated, “fausses côtes” decoration, 23 jewels, most in screwed gold chatons, safety pinion, bimetallic cut compensation balance, adjusted to 6 positions and temperatures, blued steel Breguet balance spring, eccentric cam micrometer regulator, gold wheel train. Case with gold hinges, the cuvette is inscribed “CHRONOMETRE” No. 11567, Ulysse Nardin, Locle, Genéve, Grand Prix Paris. Swiss silver control mark “Bear” with L for Locle. Case maker mark “Fly” for Association Ouvriere / Locle. Case and movement have identical numbers, minimal restoration of the tula decoration over the hinge area. Otherwice in mint condition. Fine, perfectly preserved anchor chronometer movement , grained and gilded, with Guillaume chronometer balance, straight line lever escapement, Breguet overcoil with end curve, gold train, index fine adjustment. Signed, perfectly preserved enamel dial , blued spade steel hands. Dial and hands in perfect condition. The watch is in the original box with original chronometer certificate from 1907, submitted by Paul D. Nardin, Observatory Chronometer 1st class. There is also a handwritten accompanying letter. Diameter: 58mm, Weight: 161g, original mahogany casket 17x12cm ; in excellent condition. In this completely original state of preservation with original papers and original box, the watch is an absolute rarity – it is the only observatory chronometer with a niello decoration known to me! There are some scratches on the reverse side of the case which can be seen in the upper left of the picture of the hinge. Following is from an appraisal. Signed on the top plate for “Benjamin Chadwick Liverpool” serial number 11320. Half plate, (if the fourth wheel as well as the escape and the balance all have a separate cock, it is known as a half plate, regardless of how much of the top plate is left), key wound, fusee with chain, the cut compensated balance with gold temperature screws and platinum? Quarter screws, helical blue steel hairspring, free-sprung with overcoils, diamond endstone, jewelled to the third, endstone to the escape. The brass detent foot planted in the pillar plate and fitted with an overlength steady pin. Spring detent, the brass escape wheel and detent of Earnshaw type. Plain with fixed dome and barrel edge to the band, gold joints, pendant with front cover release button, front cover engraved with garter strap surrounding blank cartouche. Case assayed in Chester (three sheaves and sword), 1873 (“k”), maker Hugh Green, 20 Pownall Square, Liverpool, registered 5th June 1865 (“HG” incuse). Pendant assayed in Birmingham (anchor), 1873 (“Y”), probably by John Johnson (listed as “Pendant Maker”), at 8 Mount Street, Chapel Fields, Coventry, (“JJ” in oval cartouche). Different marks on pendants do not necessarily indicate replacements; pendant making was a separate specialism and this is a commonly found discrepancy. The blue steel hands in spade style with gold colored seconds hand, the latter probably a replacement. The detent spring showing signs of a soldered repair next to the locking stone. This is a very nice original 1909 pocket watch made by International Watch Co, the well know IWC. It is a very very nice small watch, made of 18k solid gold, probably born for a lady. It has a high grade movement, marked “chronometer” in the inner cases, and it means an IWC 1st grade movement, and the watch has probably partecipated to the Chronometer Contest Approval in Geneva or Neuchatel. The watch is well working, even if I have not tested the precision, the movement is ok; the dial is original, a nice white porcelain dial, original and with no defects, with “big” arabic numerals. Really excellent condition overall, I would rate it as mint-, truly beautiful. The diameter of the case is 32mm. Trattasi di un orologio da tasca della International Watch Co. Good detent chronometer in hunter 14k gold case. Seems to be Swiss made for German market, or probably made by German masters based on Swiss ebauche. The movement equipped with pivoted detent escapement. It features wolf-tooth winding wheels, nice chaton and golden counterpivot. Movement is nicely finished. Dust cover is signed by German and Swiss watchmaker names.. Dust cover bears gift inscription for Christmas of 1904. Total weight is 91 grams. Diameter is 50 mm, height without bow is 62 mm. Condition Watch appears to be in good condition. Movement is running as it should. Case is in ok condition, with minor wear. It’s hallmarked for 14k gold, dust cover is also gold and is hallmarked. Howard Very Nice all Original with 16 size 21 jewel lever set movement has recently been serviced so it is running strong and keeping pretty good time.. Good chronometer in thick hunter 14k gold case. The movement equipped with spring detent escapement with helical hairspring. Big cut and compensated balance wheel with golden screws. It features swan neck micrometric regulator, all wheels are finished with nice gold chatons. Movement looks very nice. It’s made of solid nickel, nicely finished and is protected with glass crystal. The covers are bears Swiss hallmarks for 14k gold and Russian pre-1917 zolotnik’s hallmarks. Dust cover is signed with just “Chronometre” and numbered, unfortunately no other information. The ebauche is obvious Swiss, and I believe the movement was also finished in Switzerland. There were a number of decent chronometers built on same ebauche. It was used by Dent, Huguenin, Lequin-Yersin, Wilhelm Schochlin, and I believe many other good chronometrists. Condition The watch is in quite good condition. The case is thick and heavy, solidly made. Total weight is 130 grams. As usual with quality chronometers, the watch is bigger than average. Diameter is 55 mm, height without bow is 72 mm. Condition Watch appears to be in good condition. Movement is running as it should. Case is in ok condition, with minor wear. It’s hallmarked for 18k gold, dust cover is also gold and is hallmarked.
