Pocket Watch Case

18th century example of a unique timepiece. Old world craftsmanship abounds in this classic tortoise shell design case along with the ornate verge fusee movement. It has not been tested for functionality and is assumed not to be in running condition, as it did not come with a key and we could not get any standard key to fit correctly. The watch is as pictured with hallmarked silver inner case and a bubble like crystal that has minimal scratches due to age and use. The hinges operate as they should making the inner workings accessible. The case back is decorated as shown and has hairline cracks in whatever medium was used to achieve the tortoise shell finish. The case is accented with rivets around the circumference as well as a push button release for the bezel. The dial has a chip at the 11 which has been touched up at some point in time. Inside the case behind the felt was found a folded letter believed to be in German, it was not removed to avoid potential damage. The movement has inscribed LM Spath Regentsburg.

My American buyers have pretty much disappeared but for what it is worth I add the following information. That is a US import policy that costs US buyers at the border it is not assigned in Canada or originating here. Hamilton railroad grade pocket watch, model 5, grade 992B, made in 1948,16 size, 21 jewel. Adjusted 6 positions, serial #C250947 in a Fortune Sturdy 10k GF made in Canada case, serial #4816949. The 24 hour dial has some slight hairlines as shown but otherwise it is in good shape. It has been disassembled, cleaned oiled at which point a loose roller jewel was found and re set properly. Once reassembled it winds, started on its own without coaxing and ticks. I attached its current operational status which is pretty good but would benefit from a proper adjustment. Subsequently it runs quite well now but would benefit from further adjustments to operate at its potential. It is not a quartz so accuracy is determined by adjusting it in all positions while accounting for isochronism and temperature. As a simple collection addition it is good to go. I have dozens of watches that I will be listing as I finish working on them. It is insured for the value, requires a signature and is at the buyers expense. Canada Post is operating business as usual. Generally if I get an order early in the day it goes out same day but may take 3 days, weekend/ holiday dependant.
