Pocket Watch Case

A beautiful mid 18th century silver Verge pocket watch hallmarked for London 1745. The watch was made during the reign of King George II in the same year as the Jacobite rebellion of 1745. The outer case is in good condition with no major dents and is engraved with the Initials’J. R’ encircled with an ear of maize, however it doesn’t snap shut as it should. The inner case is in good condition and snaps shut just fine. It is also engraved with The name’J. Rogers’ which matches the initials on the outer case. It is hallmarked for London in 1745. The movement itself was made by’J. Josephson’ and is beautifully engraved as well as having a unique White Porcelain dial with the name’Thomas, Minerds’ painted on it in place of numerals. I have examined and cleaned the watch and found it requires a new Balance spring in order for it to run however this is a cheap and easy fix. The watch weighs 82.68 grammes (2.91 Ounces) and the outer case measures 4.7 centimetres (1.85 inches) in circumference excluding the Bow and stem. A gorgeous Antique size 17s Illinois Watch Co. Railroad Grade pocket watch. Watch Grade is Sangamo Special w/23 jewel lever set, nickel finish movement, with sapphire and ruby jewels. This watch is a Double Roller, false center bridge plate, open face movement with Breguet hairspring. The movement has raised gold jewel settings and a gold center wheel and train. The watch adjusts to temperature and six positions. This watch has a very clean, bright white double-sunk dial, with a second hand register and fancy bold Arabic numerals and is marked “Illinois”. Diamond hour and minute hands have a bold blue-black finish. The watch was manufactured circa 1921 with movement Serial Number: 3862900. The watch movement is immaculate and watch keeps very good time. Watch is encased in an original Sangamo Special Wadsworth Watch Case Co 14k Yellow Gold Filled case. Case has a hinged front bezel and screw back case (Serial number: 5619691). Case back is plain polish with light scratches indicating light use. Crystal likewise has small scratches consistent with light use. Watch measures 49 mm in diameter X 65 mm long (at bow) X 13 mm thick (crystal included). This beautiful Antique Illinois “Sangamo Special” Pocket Watch is in very fine condition, with many years of trouble-free service remaining.
